Anyone help settle an arguement over Steve Basham?

Anyone help settle an arguement over Steve Basham?

Had this debate many times with my dad over Steve Basham and I wondered what the general consensus was with the lad....

I'm (again) highlighting that I've not been a fan as long as some, but I was sure that during his loan spell and early period before "that tackle", that Basham was effing brilliant!

Sure I was a bit younger then and anyone who scored was the best, but did he not score 10 in 14 on loan on the run in to the play-offs?

My dad maintains he was a lightweight who wasn't good enough...

Who's right - me or my senile old man? 😀

Your dad knows his football.

He looked outstanding before that cunt Koumas effectively ended his career. He'd headed the winner that day too, never forget it. 😡

Am I right in thinking that Koumas refused to apologise afterwards as well?

From what I remember Basham was amazing on loan but had been much poorer after joining us permanently, even before that tackle. I had no doubt he'd get back to form but I seem to remember he'd had a dry patch.

You are right. Basham was superb until his injury. After that all his confidence and ability seemed to have evaporated - just like Chaplow now.

I will never forgive Koumas for that challenge / diabolical.

My good friend treated him at PRI on his arrival - he has dealt with many sports related compound fractures - he pointed out that this was the most severe injury he had ever seen and had been caused by, quote "massive impact"
Its a contact sport and stuff will happen, I was on the ground that day and totally agree with Elwiss, it was at a best a diabolical challenge but what got me was Koumas seemed to show little compassion.
Speculation is only opinon and my opinion is that he was at the minimum a quality championship / bottom of the prem quality player
Tragic

When he came on loan you could see he had premier league striker written all over him

The chants of "Sign on Stevie", the expectations once he did, then the let down of him not living up to those expectations.

Bit like wallace once he signed his contract.

Totally unrelated, but I remember us singing "sign on Bobby" to Bobby Mimms when he was on loan - only one that I wish hadn't signed on - he was pap once he did....wasn't he?

I'll never forget the sound of his leg snapping you could hear it on the town end from near the halfway line, nor the sight of the way it bent yuk!"

Havent read all the posts, but wasnt his shirt waved around when we scored, dont know if it was the same or next home match, was it Gregan who ran round with it?

Steve Basham! What a player! Career ruined by a Welsh cunt!

I remember him bagging a last miniute winner v Wycombe at home after we had been loosing most if the game and the day he was assaulted by Koumas.

It wasnt even remotely close to being a tackle.

😡

The guy had lots of ability, who knows where he could have got to?

Gunnlaugsson played a 0ne-two and scored a 90th minute winner v Norwich.

Bjarki then ran across the base of the Finney stand holding up Bashams shirt as a symbolic gesture of club support.

I was on the Kop and heard it snap as well.

Did you go to Tranmere away when all the Northenders were singing Koumas Takes it up the ass?

The welsh git made a two footed lunge that game as well, on Gregan I think!!!
Also seem to remember some of the players saying he never apologised to Basham!
Grade A tit.

I find that really difficult to believe

Gunnlaugsson with an assist?
