rem pointed out on the Morgan thread... how few goals we've conceded since Stuckmann and Morgan have been at the back.

Looking more widely, we all know that improving defence is usually the basis for success.... and our improvement has been dramatic.

5 goals conceded in the last 8 games.
23 goals in the previous 8 games.

OK... the 'goals-for' column has fallen over, but my view is that it's an important stage in a recovery.

I'm still not happy with PB.... but do you think it could be a sign of things turning?

No, now go away.

We've stopped winning games by not scoring goals at the expense of not conceding goals. It's embarrassing when you don't threaten teams at all in your Home games, and I'd rather we went for games and lost rather than try to shut up shop for 90 minutes.

Nope.

How can progress be playing 1 striker at home.

Players still being played out of position.

The manager still has no idea what his starting 11 should be.

Players playing matches who are not fit.

That dirge that was on show in the first half!

A manager who is totally incapable of changing the patten of a match when plan A clearly is not working.

I have backed PB most of the way but Saturday settled it for me.

Do not let a average second half performance hide the shite on offer in the first.

The only reason we are not conceding as many goals is because of shite standard of finishing and Stuckman who still remains on a short term contract.

Can you honestly see us picking up points in next three matches?

Personally I'm dreading them. TV embarrassment on Saturday, followed by 4000 gloating Carlisle fans, need I go on.

Phil Brown is not learning from his errors, the football is bloody awful.

Time for a change in my personal view.

Yes of course we've improved and yes its getting better. We will start scoring goals again once mellor, hume and proctor are all back fit again.

Mellor is still a couple of games away and going through his usual post injury purple patch (if that boy could remain fit grrrr!) Hume will be ready in a couple of games and dunno about Proctor I think he might be on off for remainder of season.

I think Stuckmann is the primary reason we've been conceding less, Turner was and is shit.

Can't argue with that John,If we get hammered next Saturday live on tv could that be the end for the Brown one?

Thank you Thorsten but I'm not sure whether the stay of execution you have provided for PB is a good thing.

We are turning the corner alright. It's mid-Dec, Jan around the corner - and January is the start of the Great Deepdale Firesale. Probably. Roll up, roll up, all you mid-table Championship Clubs - North End have Stuckmann, Hume, Coutts, Mellor, Proctor - and why not throw in Morgan too - all available at bargain prices......

hopefully not.

J.K. Spot on agree with all points.
A suggestion. Put Brown on gardening leave with notice on his contract give Unsworth or Grezza or anybody ! The job, has to be an improvement costs us virtually nothing.

Teams winning 8 games on the trot is very rare. About 3000/1.

MK Dons have won 7 on the trot, so that means that their chance of making it eight on Saturday is about 3000/1 against*. I am therefore confident that we will avoid defeat.

*based on the Albertan-method of statistical misinterpretation.

Regardless, you are 100% right. 1000% right.

However, fool that I am, I am willing to stake £10 at the ridiculously short odds of 2000-1 that MK Dons win on saturday, at the newly formed Regardless bookies.

Think about it R - it's like buying money.

I was not happy with Brown and I thought the Hartlepool game would be the final nail... but we won. I really didnt want to lose to Chesterfield in the JPT but I was content with putting league performances first.

I personally saw a whole host of positives from the Stevenage game.

-The return of Hume.
- A fantastic performance from Morgan.
- Danny Mayor playing well in a league game for more than ten minutes.
-Smith, who has been out in the cold, coming in and doing a good job.
- Taking a single point but still climbing 4 places in the league.

Phil Brown's team selction still baffles me but atleast he had good reason this weekend. Downsides for me was having to play Connor out of position twice in the same game, although I feel he coped well and Adam Barton was useless again. If we had been able to select Coutts and Nicolson, I think we would have walked that game in the second half and Brown would have probably had the closest thing to his best starting eleven.

If we had everyone in the squad fit and able to play for every game for the rest of the season do you think we would have a settled team? Or even a settled formation? I don't. I suspect PB has not got a clue what is best side or farmation is.

Yes, add those those two to the line-up that started the second half on Saturday in place of McLaughlin, really a fullback but maybe a potential midfielder, and Barton, potentially a major player for us if he can learn to be more combatitive, and we have what is probably our best side from the current squad at the moment, though it would be interesting to see how we might play with Parry on the left of midfield in front of Smith. With Daley and Proctor also in the mix then we start to look like a side with some shape and purpose.

Exactly. It just seems like everytime you think you can name the lineup there is always unnecessary changes. With all the faults of that 7 game winning streak side, the fact was it was hardly changed and that speaks volumes.

Hardly turning the corner. More like applying the handbrake after the car starts rolling downhill towing a caravan.
True the defence is coping better and the keeper has been a revelation. The midfield still looks unbalanced and the Mellor/Hume partnership has to regain fitness.

I dread the games ahead. Under this clown we'll be lucky to win another game.

Major opportunity missed on Saturday against very mediocre opposition. 3 points would have put us 2 points outside the play-offs. PBs tactics and team selection are now beyond a joke, let alone comprehension!

I've been as baffled and dismayed as anyone by some of PB's selections. But given the injury situation there wasn't too much different he could have done on Saturday other than to start with a Mellor-Tsoumou partnership, which admittedly I think he should have done. But in the second half he got as near to the sort of line-up most of us would want to see as resources allowed.
