Barnsley enquire about Westley?(Rumour)

Butcher's agent has said that they have neither agreed, or disagreed terms and that more talks tomorrow. Heard few people mention that they had heard that Westley was in a meeting in Yorkshire today.

Just had a nosey at the Barnsley forum, and no mention of Westley whatsoever.

They've done a fans poll with a list of about 15 names & he's not even on that! Although interestingly, a certain Phil Orange makes the list, but shockingly is the only manager without a single vote...!

Second favourite behind "Butch" on Oddschecker though, but I can't see Barnsley fans being too happy with appointing GW if they look at his record since joining us. Plus would Westley be interested, they look nailed on for relegation, and would he really want to start another total re-build job just 12 months after starting the last one?

Seems unlikely to me, but stranger things have happened...

Aye, they've had a thread on there, and it's safe to say they're not impressed.

Oh yes, he does get a mention! No wonder I missed it, it's on the 5th bloody page, and it was only posted 1 day ago! What a terrible forum that is, really hard to read, and threads galore on the same topic! Bob Ross would have a coronary!

However, back to the possibility of this happening, well if he got a mixed reception when we appointed him, I think the vast majority would have the knives out for him from day one at Barnsley, purely due to his record in the last 12 months. Would be a very risky appointment for them.

Westley must start to bring us some success or his next job will be at a team lower than us, not above.

Westley really would have a screw loose to even contemplate jumping ship to that lot. Out of the frying pan into the fire, springs to mind.

I do agree with your last sentence completely. I've given him my backing, so far, but there's only a finite amount of patience that I'm willing to give.

Frying pan to fire is exactly it. At least he has half the fans behind him at PNE.

They are rock bottom. Can you imagine him pitching up at Baarnsley doing his hatchet job on the squad with them in that position?! He wouldn't last 5 minutes.

He'd have to be insane to take that job...Oakwell for Westley it is then!

Yep... the quip made me smile, but not sure I agree. At the end of the day, if he goes to Barnsley, he'd know he had a fresh start and at least 9 months in the job. Here, if loses the next 4 games, he could be hounded out of the job.

Having said that, I'm really hopeful that the Garner signing will help both on the pitch, and with confidence.

I really can't see him going to Barnsley, but as someone else said, stranger things have happened. However, if he does, I think that with the right manager, we now (almost) have a squad which can do well at this level. So I'm pretty ambivalent about the situation to be honest. Que Sera....

This for me epitomises the problem at Deepdale. We have one win in the last nine league games, four goals scored in those nine matches, and no home league win since September. However, for some supporters this is "doing OK". When such poor standards are satisfactory, what hope have we got to strive forward on the pitch with ambition, when there is such a lack of it amongst the blindfaith element of our support who seem only to happy to embrace mediocrity, dire football, clueless tactics, baffling team selections and unfulfilled promises?

Tell me what 3 Strategic decisions YOU would make to GUARANTEE taking the club forward ?

You struggling with this BSK?

Nothing is guaranteed in football so it's a predictably pointless question. Let's just stick with Westley and enthuse about the shit entertainment, winless runs and plummeting attendances. 😱
Or, conversley, sit patiently realising the strategy is only at its beginning and reap the rewards later.

We can take that as a 'Yes' can we?

Westley has had almost a year now but we're lower than when he started. I'm all for stability and giving managers lots of time, however there's no point backing the wrong man. If we lose tomorrow at Coventry, Westley should show some dignity and resign.
