If pne-online awards were ever to start again, i know we're my vote would go for the daftest thread.
Better off relegated?
I would've said NO in capitals two years ago, not now. This question was sort of being asked when Lowe had a team with Troy Parrott as CF and Woodburn as number 10 a few points off the play offs in first half of 2022.
However the situation is now even worse with ridiculous squad building. It really is laughable when you see the club hasn't spent anything on the full back area in nearly six years now and it's basically the same backline as in 20/21, four seasons ago.
If team stays up what really changes next season? And the season after. Expecting PH to sign 4-5 amazing players on free transfers and/or young loanees is asking far too much although who knows maybe he'll find those players somehow.
Inevitably then he comes under pressure from the fanbase, it's already happening.
I certainly understand where you're coming from, but relegation would be a disaster. I fear it could be the prelude to outright asset stripping as opposed to wanton and wilful neglect, which is the case at present.
Although I agree with quite a few of your points I would be ok with relegation if it meant Hemmings sold up and in turn ridsdale left as well. Obviously that’s a big if.
We have a couple of major issues at the moment.
1) quite a few fans seem satisfied with the job the owner is doing. There isn’t much anger in the stands just apathy. Nobody is really being vocal about wanting ridsdale out. And this won’t happen until we are relegated or very close to relegation.
2) ridsdale and co think the job they are doing is a good one. They see staying in the championship each year as a success. By continuing to stay in this division they don’t see any need to change what they are doing. Relegation would ask serious questions and that arrogant preach ridsdale often gives us will be futile.
Do I want us to be relegated? No but I also don’t want us to carry on like we are. Just striving to exist in the championship year after year. It’s boring. If we stay in this division it will be more of the same until the owners get fed up and leave or ridsdale retires/falls ill. Relegation imo is the owner way that change will happen.
Only time will tell but at the moment having a relegation battle is the most exciting season we’ve had in ten years.
I doubt much will change regarding the ownership of the club if we are relegated?Perhaps PR will receive a golden handshake from the owners for all his sterling work over the years and head off into the sunset 🤔
He would only to be replaced by another yes man to ensure there is no over spend of the meagre budget.
I don't believe there would be any reset, just lower overheads for the IOM and a lower budget for the club to survive off.
Yes change is required and perhaps relegation is inevitable.
If and when it occurs I don't expect any improvement in the running of the club from the present owners and do not see how it would assist finding new owners, those in the IOM will still want their pound of flesh back.🤔😕
Serious Question - would we be better off releggated from a financial point of view.?
Its fact we lose millions every season and Hemmings keep us a float but would the loses be less in L1
I dont know the numbers here, but I strongly expect that due to the drop in salaries, being in L would mean reduced annual loses.
- Crowds would drop but not by much and I think the ticket prices would stay the same, so for me no major drop in revenue
- Salaries of staff would be substantailly lower
- TV revenue much lower
- lower sponshorship money
- lower match day costs

yes, the post isnt about whether I think relegation would be good or if I would like it - simply do you think the owners would have to pump less money in should we be relegated. A purely financial question.
I domt know the difference in TV revenues betweeen CHampionship and L1, which will likely be the deciding factor.

The difference in TV and Prem solidarity revenues is massive.
However, FFP rules in L1 are different - our owners could make up the difference themselves if they really wanted.
We don't know whether they would want to make up the difference themselves, or e.g. slash spending to austerity levels like last time we were in L1 under Hemmings and Ridsdale.
League One now is completely different to when we were last there..A difficult league and a lot harder to get out of. We could be there for ages
Well last time in 2011 likes of Sheffield United and Huddersfield were down there...just as Hudds are now. Infact Sheff Weds went down in 2010 and were still there aswell. Think Charlton were also around as they were now. Portsmouth also were crashing through the leagues and had one season in league one in 12/13.
Birmingham will surely be down there just for one season and Wrexham will get up sooner or later with their pulling power. Wouldn't say the rest of the league looks that fearsome.
It all depends on what investment comes in. Pointless just continuing to put in minimal investment as dosen't matter what division you're in, you won't be near the top.
Last time Hemmings Sr at least realised once he actually got a proper manager in he needed to be backed and so we saw that with Kevin Davies being signed in summer 2013 (he was a regular for Bolton in the prem a year before) and then other biggish names like Beckford followed.
All feels far more difficult now so those will be the questions for someone to answer in six months.

The question was would the club be better off finacially. i.e. lose less money in L1,?
Only if we got another Westley to bully our senior players out of their contracts and replace them with Chris Beardsley's and Anthony Elding's. Having witnessed this once, I never want to see that again.
No, but if we do I expect to be allowed to throw dirty nappies with rocks in a Riddy.
