Bill Shankly Kop

Bill Shankly Kop

My Dad always referred to the Kop as the Spion Kop whilst explaining the reason behind it. Unfortunately, it sparked a somewhat heated (ongoing) discussion about the morality of it all. He was fiercely pro British about the whole Africa situation, I, as a snotty young rebel was, of course, of the opposite opinion. However, that's a whole subject for another time/place.

There’s a new documentary on the BBC2 about the trade in human beings Roy.

Worth a watch if you’ve an interest in such issues.

Obviously, were are not allowed to discuss them on here though…

Spion kop my favourite place to support pne in the sixty and seventeys true home of the GENTRY.
It was just ‘The Kop’. We knew it was Spion but we shortened it to Kop and for me and my mates it was dead center behind the goals from the middle entry steps ( that collapsed during an FA cup game ) I was on The Town End that day .. ticket trouble 🙂

Lets just forget history eh, its all in the past so why bother.

I know this was written with tongue in cheek but it's a truism that the failure to learn from history condemns us to make the same mistakes. Nobody would be short of examples of ' charasmatic' dictators in the past who caused much human misery.
That piece of history should keep us on our toes today. People should be aware that introducing the British sense of 'fair play' didn't always involve the British playing fairly.

Unfortunately, during my school years, I had to make choices, for example, history or geography; I chose the latter.
Fortunately, with the internet, I can catch up on things I missed, and it never ceases to amaze me that Winston Churchill is regarded by many as a national hero.

You would be writing that in German if it wasn't for him.

That’s exactly where me and my friends used to stand and I too was on the Town End the day that the wall collapsed. Me and a late friend were stood among all the Man Utd fans with our North End scarves on. I remember being concerned as my brother was stood very close to the collapse, thankfully he was okay.

Yeh.

And whilst we’re at it maybe SpudBros should take over sponsorship of the Alan Kelly Town End as a nod to the British-induced Irish potato famine.
I don't think the Brits actually invented the disease Phytopthora infestans & went around spraying it around all the Irish farms and smallholdings.
