Matchday Thread Birmingham City v PNE | 13.10.26 | KO:8PM | Championship

I don’t think the players have responded much to Alexander’s appointment and maybe the style of play he wants ..there has been absolutely no new manager bounce.Given the next set of fixtures (Wrexham/West Brom/Stoke/Southampton/West Ham Alexander could well be looking at 7/8 consecutive defeats from appointment -what on earth happens after that ..

There has been a culture of medicority seeping down from Lady Macbeth all the way through to the playing squad.

Graham makes a point that we have been shite for a number of years and he hasn't got a magic wand.

We need a miracle but it's important folk remember how we have ended up in this mess.

Some of these players don't appear to care much, some are unfit, some are not very good.

It is a recipe for disaster.

Agree Joan, league 1 was bloody awful last time we were in it....i dont buy all this "relegation will do us good" but sadly and predictively its happening because with this shit squad there is no hope and how are we even supposed to attract any decent players in January when we are rock bottom and destined for the drop?....hopeless situation and all the clubs own making, their so out of touch it beggers beliefe....sick of the lot of them!
Absolutely scally. When we’ve been in a position of strength before we’ve never signed anyone in January, so who of any note would want to join this shit show! I’m not one for saying go down and reset either….if we do go down it could take years to get back to this level again. For me it would be a disaster. As it stands though it hard to see us surviving. We’ve spent a lot of money for us this summer and look considerably worse! We are absolutely woeful in both boxes. The two most important parts of the pitch. We’ve left ourselves criminally short at the top end of the pitch and we’ve all known for a while now that the defence is awful…..yet we’ve neglected both areas! It’s coming home to roost unfortunately. If grezza saves us he deserves a knighthood!

I think he might just be realising the size of the task he has inherited.
Despite some of the silly posts on the thread, whoever took over was faced with the same squad.
He at least now knows the size of the chore ahead.
Whether he can turn it around?
Who knows, but i reckon he has as good a chance as anyone else we might have appointed (most of whom apparently, took one look at the squad and said - no thanks!!) anyway.

I agree.
However, it would seem that too many want to point the arrows at the wrong places!

I think it’s probably because he is making them work for their excessive pay. They are incredibly unfit. Tonight I heard one of the commentators say “Small has been dispossessed “ my first thought was bloody hell I could dispossess Small and I am 74, 4’10” with dodgy knees and naughty arthritis. We absolutely look amateur at best.

Spot on.

Yep I agree with this. So much for well run club eh.

There was a point in the first half with GA gesticulating at Small to tighten up the space in front of him/ or improve his reaction to the loose ball. These players have developed defeatist attitudes under PH - and they’d better shake of their torpor quick. And once again mistakes at the back are I forgiveable. I’d drop Storey next game and pull in Lindsay with Gibson. Not ideal -but Storey’s concentration and common sense has lapses. Lindsay’s not much better tbh, but storey looks like a rabbit lost in headlights in front of a juggernaut.
Where’s Wiley? Where’s Potts?
And if Kenny isn’t fit - serious questions about finding a non contracted striker at whatever price.
Weren’t Blackburn looking at someone who could not agree wages?

Neither sir Alex or Pep could get anything from this squad. It’s a ramshackled team with no quality upfront. It’s no wonder they are low on confidence. We don’t do the basics right, and the spine is weak as fuck.
Hecky wanted at least 3 more players and it shows.

Did ridsdale down tools thinking the takeover was going ahead in summer?

When you think it can’t get any worse😳

Genuinely think we might break a record for lowest points total without a points deduction.

Relegation is truly inevitable.

Not in years have I seen a team of ours look so disjointed and talentless.

We seriously look like we’ve never played football at times.

And to put the proverbial cherry on the cake, I think most of the players don’t give a flying fuck yet I take the day off work and get home at Midnight to watch that utter embarrassment.

10 games in and I’m sick of the fucking lot of them.

Unless my son wants to go on, it while be a while before I set foot in Deepdale again!

It’s a perfect storm, that’s been brewing for years !

Please no “sleepwalking to relegation “ cliches, the club has for some time been marching to the owners desired destination of league 1. Which this current squad would struggle in.

After this season I doubt any other championship club would touch them.

This isn’t like a treacy, st ledger or billy jones were they were better than league one and were out performing our performances in the league.

I can’t name one player who another championship club would want. And if they wanted to leave just let them. In fact i would drive them for free.
Would love a billy Jones now.

I thought Moran played pretty well when he came on and deserves to start the next game.
At the very least he put himself about, and got somewhat involved in the game.

Can’t get worse anyway, Hecky’s tactical ineptitude has really cost us the last three games. I’d put him in from the off at Wrexham, too.
