Matchday Thread Birmingham v PNE 01/04/24 - KO:3PM - Championship
I suspect it was higher up that stopped Lowe from bringing in a RWB and Lowe was just toeing the line to the press. If Craig and Peter said here is X amount for a RWB Lowe would have tried to get one inIn January we could have got another loan player to cover Potts but RL insisted we did not need anyone as we had Browne which was daft…he should have got the cover in even if it was not needed as there will always be injuries to the squad..had we got the cover it would give us more options in games.

If the dickhead that is Ridsdale wasn't a big girly we might still have one....
Edit......And he might not have been injured and lost his career.

Not sure where you have asked a question of me regarding Rooney which I have refused to answer. As you’ve actually asked a (vague), question re: Rooney, I’m not sure whether he will ultimately be a good manager. IMO, he is and will be a very good coach, whether he can be both a good coach and a good manager simultaneously I don’t know.We don’t persist with two DCM’s that is rubbish. Since Christmas we have played Browne, mads and whiteman in the majority of the games. Whiteman got injured so then we played mccann. Browne has only played RWB once I think - against stoke. The rest it was either Brady or Millar or potts.
We played two DCM on Saturday because we literally had fuck all else. Why do you never answer questions about Rooney. You remind me of boris Johnson. Avoid questions like the plague. Do you think Wayne Rooney is a good manager and why?
He’s probably taken the wrong jobs at the wrong time so far (Derby aside, where I think he did very well and had good relationships with everyone at the club apart from the administrators).
I like the fact he has access to a good recruitment network via his agent, cares about the football rather than his public profile, and actually think he would be a good fit at a club like PNE. Convinced he would have a better relationship with the likes of Browne, Riis, Whiteman, Woodman etc. than does RL.

Excellent, we can therefore write off next season as well as the current season. The home games this season have been exhilarating, more of the same please….Over the course of the current season that has us 8th and 5 points off the play offs with a game in hand, regardless of all the xG stuff mentioned.
All whilst dealing with injuries, lack of investment in the January, bedding in 7 new signings and results against Leeds, Ipswich and Rovers.
Could be better, but shouldn't be sniffed at.
Lowe has earnt the remainder of the season and next Summer.
Although we won’t have Millar, whom has provided the only real entertainment value at Deepdale this season from a PNE perspective, aside from occasional flashes of quality from Mads. Losing Browne and Millar would be catastrophic, and I’d be amazed if both are PNE players at the start of next season.

Nowhere has writing off either season been mentioned, for clarity that is not what I want and I'm sure others don't want that either, I don't mean to offend but thats a very silly point you're making and the reasons for it will evade me so we should probably just leave that there.
I swear I read before deciding to post on here that you were the poster who said Whiteman wouldn't sign? Or have I been mistaken? If I have I apologise but otherwise I won't be taking your word as gospel on the Browne and Millar situations.

Cheers OB1.. thanks for the context. You’re right he really hasn’t been given the same formation support as others. In my own defence ..I did add ‘yet’ at the end of my comment 😉👍5 goals and 2 assists with limited gametime in his first season at England. It’s amazing how our fanbase let a pricetag (that they haven’t paid) sway their opinion on a player. He also has barely played in the same system Riis has had such success in, with Keane and Mads
For context, Millar and Holmes with more gametime have only managed 5 goals and 5 assists and everyone raves about how great they’ve been.

Well, it's certainly not tenuous, because you actually said it. And whilst I'm sure it's tedious for you to be reminded of it, personally, I think it's quite amusing ☺️Bringing Wayne Rooney into the discussion is a tenuous (or tedious), link in itself is it not?
It is obvious that pretty much every opponent commits a significant amount of their defensive strategy on negating Millar. Millar is a wide forward in a 4-3-3, to play him elsewhere is ridiculous. Yet RL continues to do so.
We are one of the worst in the league in terms of shots faced, xGA, and goals conceded despite persisting with a back 5 and two DCM’s. At this stage of the season, being in the position we’re in, why not go with a front three of Millar, Osmajic, and Riis? Unpredictable, but surely more appealing than the predictable and boring 12th place we are destined to occupy.

Wrong job at the wrong time… I mean he did manage Birmingham when they were pushing for the play offs with a decent squad and somehow turned them into a shit show.
Your last sentence is just bollocks. Look at times he managed Birmingham and how many times he threw the players under the bus.

I'm not too keen on Lowe either but Rooney has existed in a different money world than ours so to suggest he " would be a good fit " here is plain barmy.
First mistake in ages on Monday (just one of those things) but he’s been excellent this year and will be in the run for POTY - would not be surprised to see him get the players one
But it’s indicative of our football that he has the most blocks and clearances. We are far too passive in allowing the opposition in on goal
will get my vote for sure......
I wouldnt describe monday as a mistake, it was just an unfortunate slip.....
the 'mistake' was passing to them with a backheel flick to break away when we were attacking and catching the all defence out of position.

The commentary I had on Monday suggested he was struggling with a groin issue in the first half. That being the case it may have contributed to, and I agree with your description, an unfortunate slip.

perhaps @Thewhites. waitress bird was old enough to temp Rooney?????
I think he’s looked a little ‘flat footed’ recently, as though he’s struggled to get moving in the split second he sets off - suggests an upper leg issue like you say. Having said that, he’s almost always been in our best two or three players in my opinion. The commentary I had on Monday suggested he was struggling with a groin issue in the first half. I totally agree with this, he's had a fine season putting in some excellent shifts.
