Central Midfield

Central Midfield

It's like trying to find the combination for a lock that doesn't open.
Chaplow is too slow on the ball and Carter is a passenger at the best of times.

Lovin that Quote Neaty.

Carter, imo, is masquerading as a footballer and he's on 9k a week, somnething has to be done.

what id give for an alexander-mckenna central midfield partnership now. There is a massive list of things they did better than our current pair, but the one thats angers me most is wanting the ball. How many times our defence had the ball and carter and chaplow were ambling away in the opposite direction. Mckenna would come and look for the ball, ok he may pass it to the fullbacks or sideways to the wingers but i cant even begin to stress how much better that is than what we currently have. The defence end up hoofing the ball because nobody in front of them wants it. Shumi to give him his credit yesterday came looking for the ball of the defence, what a midfielder should do.

I believe thats about 13 or 14 goals conceded from outside the box, just about says it all about our center midfield. WEAK very WEAK.

Carter was a spectator yesterday, and Chaplow was busy but crap - missed passes, missed, tackles. Shumi looked more effective, but he needs to be given a good run of starts. AI needs to try other options in the middle - opposition midfields are given free reign and it was because Ambrose was gifted so much space that he took his great goal.
Shooting practice on Monday morning for Carter and Chaplow - just get it on target for once.

The only solution at present is to get a Prem reserve in on loan.

I have absolutely no idea whether any of the following are injured, currently out on loan, or just out of favour.

What I do know is that none of them have figured much in the Prem so far this season, and that any one of them would do a better job than Carter & Chaplow in the middle.

Michael Tonge - Stoke
Andrew Surman - Wolves
Darron Gibson - Man Utd

No doubt there are others, but those 3 sprang to mind. Tonge and Surman are proven Championship players and Gibson is already a full Irish international.

Carter would be better of in the Olympic hide and seek team, AWOL again, agree about sedgwhinnio we have nothing to lose at all, can't criticize up front and defence it's all about midfield, the only decent balls cutting to the channels came from jones, for god sakes put him back in midfield again and lose carthorse in a glue factory somewhere as the knackers yard is all he is fit for !
Ps
Good goal from wallace but surely mellor as the motm ?

wages will be too much, we would be better imo to put davidson (when fit) with shumi in the centre and give it a go till january where we can have a clear out of the higher paid players who arent up for it and make room for players lesser known but will show more commitment and desire for less money... look at blackpool for an example, we would then be better of financially andhave the chance to have a bigger squad to rotate from...

Can't argue with too much of that - except how come Blackpool have managed to loan that Emmanuelle kid from Arsenal? They exist on even less crowds than us - and so did Burnley, for that matter! The difference is that they've at least shown some imagination.

Good response, this is the issue with many North End fans who do not believe that we have the commitment to reach the next level. Every time a player from the prem or a larger championship club is linked with us the same old response " We cant afford his wages". Well how the hell do Blackpool and others then !!!!

how bad was chaplows corner in front of the bsk😱 carter was non existent, apart from that i thought everybody else put in a good shift, especially mellor. parkin was a bit disapointing his first touch is poor. on a good note the defence looked solid, chilvers/collins combo could pay off imo. collins is getting there, he looked pacey and sharp yesterday and was unlucky not to score, passing werent too bad either.

We've just received a 1.5 million loan fee from Boro, plus his wages off the bill, and are receiving another 3 million in January. Surely we could use some of that to help bringing someone else in. Bringing someone in for 2 months, at even 10k a week would cost no more then 100k.

Jay Emmanuel-Thomas will be on low wages as a young pro, wheras the likes of Tonge etc will be on senior player wages.

However that's no reason why we can't loan someone in. We can afford it.

Over the summer i was actually optimistic that if we got a new central midfielder to partner mckenna then wed have a decent side. instead we got rid of mckenna. I said it then, hoping id be wrong, but im not, we needed two central midfielders in once we got rid of mckenna because we could all see it then and its clear now, chaplow and carter arent good enough. Shumi still deserves more time to prove himself, but even if he turns out to be good enough, we still need a new centre midfielder to partner him.

I honestly feel we could do no worse than line up with davidson and sedgwick in central midfield, in fact i think it would work alot lot better than what we have now.

Surman is an excellent player.

Would take him in a heartbeat.

we are not in the relegation places yet but with this midfield we will be.then shaw might get desperate and release the purse strings to keep us up and the cycle continues. i dont expect a win every week and can endure defeat if we are playing football but this season we cant string two passes together and i for one am getting virtually no enjoyment from the match day experience.when the highlight of the afternoon is watching a bird climb out of a bottle just about sums it up really defeat against newcastle and blackpool will see me calling it a day enough is enough thanks for nothing derek.

We've done it before with Sedge and it didn't work then and i don't think it would now, just my opinion though..🙂

agreed but its certainly not working now. obviously its not a long term solution, we need someone else, but at least he puts some effort in and takes some responsibility and wants the ball.

Yes he does put the effort in but as seen yesterday in close situations his short pass distribution was shocking in the times he failed to find his man and gave away the ball.

Chaplow has not been the same player since he was brought on when still injured at Turf Moor 🙁
