David Moyes.

David Moyes.

I genuinely do sometimes wonder where we’d be now if he’d stayed.
The attraction to buy us would have increased somewhat - maybe ?
I never thought he would stay. Everton's chairman was publicly sniffing around looking for someone to bring them success...."He's young, he's ambitious..." can't remember the rest and that was it. He didn't win anything, though, did he. He kept them well organised and in the upper end.

Kept relegation fodder Everton in the league and turned them into a champions league qualifying side.

It may not be trophy laden, but it was an astonishing achievement.
I don't remember Everton being relegation candidates too much at that time, I've probably forgotten. I know they were recently.

I wouldn't say what he did there was astonishing. Howard Kendall's era was, though.

Edit: Lets not row we're getting on a like a house on fire these days

There was talk at the time we might even swap places with them when he went there! They were 1 point above the relegation zone when they sacked Walter Smith.

In 1998 about 4 years prior to Moyes joining they stayed up on goal difference.
In 2005 under Moyes they finished 4th in a champions league slot. They did fall at the first hurdle in the qualifying round though from memory.

Worth noting how diabolically badly he was treated at united also
Wow ?

He did and laid the foundations that were wasted by more high profile managers. Ne of his first transfer acts at Everton was to delay the transfer of Gazza to Burnley so he was ineligible to play against us.

It's no bad at all but Evertonians were not happy with that. I can see their point, they are (the blue) half of a very large city and there is actually no reason why they couldn't have been as successful as the other lot (who I don't like). It just takes someone to come in and make it happen like Clough at Forest, like Ferguson, obviously. Moyes gave it his best and probably wasn't backed sufficiently to be fair to him but it takes something extra special and I don't know if he had it, or has it.
