Davis preferred candidate and Proctor to return (LEP)

Davis preferred candidate and Proctor to return (LEP)

So, our now former manager taking both our Physio and Chief Scout with 8 games to go is oreet?

Halli, pubs named King William IV, as an example, are always known as The King Billy to the locals.

Hence William Davies has the nickname KBD.

You do know he's not a pub don't you ?😉

We refer to our local boozer as the 'shithole'.

I don't think Davis will return and I'm not sure I would want him too!........but one thing is for certain, IF he did return it would show a bit of intent from the owner and give us a bit of belief where TH wants to take the Club.

I think the most important thing to consider here is what Trevor Hemmings main objective is here. It's been widely publicised that he wants his money back and the owner/Ridsdale must know that the only way to make any money will be to get promoted at least back into the Championship. With promotion being the minimum requirement for Hemmings to get his money back there is only one candidate he should be going for that eliminates the risk of failure:

Alexander - unproven and huge risk
Unsworth - I would argue he is the least suited to the job with the way he ran the team alone last season - 2 poor results that arguably drove the nails into the coffin
Westley/ Mellon/ Flitcroft - all doing well with current clubs but as Paul Simpson showed that counts for nothing with a big club like ours
And finally Billy Davies - whatever problems he may bring he brings proven track record of getting teams into the playoffs in the championship and taking one team up. He would demand money but the type of player we could attract in league 1 wouldn't require big fees so the big money wouldn't be needed until next season.

Bottom line - only one man who can meet the owners one and only requirement. Mr B Davies must be appointed ASAP.

It was promotion form. You can have a club rock bottom of the league, if they win 10 in 10 games, THAT is promotion form.

well, the promotion form must have been mixed in with the odd touch of relegation form, otherwise we would be promoted

On the whole, when Billy Davies was here our form was predominately promotion form. It saw us into the play-offs, as Billy has done every full season.

You get promoted via the play-offs, however this is largely a lottery. West Ham beat us in the play-off final, however over the whole season we finished some way ahead of them. Our form over the season was better than what they did. I never once stated that he took us up, nor did I state it was form suitable to win the league, however it was promotion form.

I often take great comfort in the fact that we were better than West Ham that season, and Leeds the next. Thanks Billy. And thanks for getting wee Preston's wee fans a wee day oot to Cardiff, Thanks Billy.

Annoys me this play-offs are a lottery bollocks. Think the odds of a lottery win are about 14,000,000-1. All things being equal, we should at worst be 4-1, but as it is widely accepted we had a better TEAM than West Ham & Leeds in those campaigns, why do we keep ballsing these games up?

Don't know why it is but in my 30 years of following PNE, we have never shown up in the big games, or had a "giant-killing" worthy of the name, unlike a certain couple of local rivals I could mention.

That's the National Lottery yes, but a lottery can be as short of 50:50. It's called a lottery because form as such goes out of the window and it depends on a individual 90 minute match where a lot of external factors could influence the outcome. IMHO of course.

For crying out loud! HIS NAME IS BILLY DAVIES!!!!! That's Davies with a slient "e"!

He was previously at this club for about 5 years, and is constantly talked about on this message board, why so many of you struggle with a simple 6 letter word is beyond belief! After seeing his name in print for the 1000th time, does it never sink in how his name is spelt?

Oh, and while we're at it, it's Iain Hume, not Ian Hulme.

Got that children? OK cheers.

If we're checking spelling, please could you tell us all what you mean by the highlighted word in your first sentence - "slient"?

People go on about boring football and not scoring much but isn't that what football is about? Getting perfect results? 1-0's, 2-0's etc? Under Davies we managed to concede the least in the 05/06 season out of every other team in that league including the runaway leaders Reading, who still hold the record for the most points gained in any season of 106. Yet we had a better defensive record than them! 30 goals conceded! Unbeliavable record. Nearly 0.5 a game. We also managed still to have an impressive +29 GD so even if we only scored 59, probably about the same as we did under Fergie, we only conceded that little, meaning our record was as good as other teams around us who had scored 80 and conceded 50.

I would have preferred to watch Reading that season.

Let's compare apples with apples shall we? Moyes left to join one of the only two clubs who have never been relegated from the top division since prior to world war 2, not quite the same as taking over Derby or Forest in their current situation at the time was it?

Two clubs who had a lot of money relative to their rivals, unlike Everton.

Not saying we were better than them but I think we should be proud that we had a better defensive record than a team who holds the best point record ever in English League football.

Fair enough, but look at the squad and momentum Billy inherited. North End should have won the league by a record amount when Reading did. The opportunity was there. My point is that Davies lack of automatic promotion was actually a failure for PNE at that time, and that it was down to his tactics and obsession with an ultra-defensive attitude that was to blame for this relative failure.
I do not see how Billy will benefit North End in the long term. If he does well, he'll be applying for other jobs again and leave within a blink of an eye, and be off to a richer club. If he fails, he will have introduced loads of his own requirements into the club which will cause a bleed when he eventually leap frogs North End again, most likely to a near rival.
He is no good for North End. No charisma. No relation to the fans other than a big (relatively speaking) arm swing, and that was largely it. As for his assistant. No thanks.
Worryingly, he has played his cards as to his regard for North End, and clearly sees them as a career step, rather than having any attachment.
Billy is the choice for anyone who wants another fly by night mercenary, enjoys draws and ground out matches, and someone who has no regard for the football club.

Theyre all mercanaries, all of them. Us fans are the only constants.
