Congratulations to all at PNE for following the EFL and joining with others in the Enough is Enough campaign.
Personally I hope it has the desired effect of forcing Social Media Companies to do more to act against those who misuse the social media platforms for hateful purposes.
Personally, I would encourage as many people as possible to join the boycott and even take the opportunity to ask themselves if using these social media at all in future is necessary, particularly if those media continue to be slow to act against misuse.

I do use twitter and Facebook. I will join in with this for this weekend.

I wonder if pnefc.net is going to cope with all the hits at 2pm to get team news.

Never been on Twatter, Instantgran or Facefuck

This is as close to social media as I get.
I came off Twitter months ago (or haven’t been on in months save for looking at links from this forum) I couldn’t be bothered with it. Instagram I may be on but no clue how to use it so don't go on that either, Facebook I do go on mainly for North End stuff although I follow some soap groups and keep up with a few friends from my school years and one of my sisters. I can honestly say I haven’t seen much abuse (if any at all) but I think most of that stuff is on Twitter and one of the reasons I don’t go on it anymore.

I'm on Twitter and agree with you Joan. It's a cesspit unless you follow for hobbies and such like. I have a FB account but only use it for friends contacts and messaging.......I stopped the daily scrolling about 3 years ago and it was one of the best decisions I've made.

For me, FB especially is a scourge on society......they are making billions of pounds through "fake news" and hate.

I stopped using my social media back in January 2020 as it was my resolution at the time and I haven’t looked back, got my missus to deactivate them for me early this year.

Social media is a massive waste of time only thing it is good for is keeping up with family who live abroad, majority of people on them are keyboard trolls who spout abuse and racist remarks at people, hopefully in the near future we are able to track down the abusers and bring them to justice.

Facebook works for me as I only have close friends on there. Ive used it to build up a family history of what my kids have been doing, i do put the odd anecdote, on there, but in the main its used mainly for messenger, which is invaluable.

Im seriously considering my future on twitter as it really can be a cesspit, as you say.

Ive had a few people post questionable stuff that pop up on my FB feed I just get rid.

I don't see the questionable stuff on FB as I don't scroll but as you say it's a good contact site esp where you don't have phone numbers in your phone. I'd say I keep on there for work contacts mainly.

After the last election I came off Twitter for 3 months and it made my mood a lot better. Since then I've drastically cut down and changed who I follow so it's better. I rarely now "bite" on political threads and that makes my mood better. That said, it's still very easy to click on a thread and your day darkens immediately.

Interesting small case study is a conversation I had with @Mickypne this afternoon on the Labour Party Cockwombles thread.

He had a headline story thrust onto his Twitterfeed today about a dozen Labour Party members/councillors being suspended for alleged antisemitism. So it’s presented as a fairly big story to him and he’s (not unreasonably) on that thread wondering why no one’s talking about it.

I did a Google search (not exhaustive) and found only three hits for the story on the whole internet (2 from the Peterborough Telegraph and one from Cambridge News) - so no wonder no one is talking about it on here! But that’s not his fault or any other forum member’s failing.

It just feels like mischief-making and sowing of division by Twitter- trying to stir “conversation” on controversial topics. I guess most of us will recognise that they manipulate us like that.

On twitter but barely use it - not due to abuse but because I have just found it a bit crap. Took it off my phone and no regrets at all.

Facebook, yes, try to keep it for the purpose it was intended originally (I.e. catching up with family and friends, for which it is excellent). Once it became some sort of window on every aspect of the world and got too big to manage properly then it went downhill. I would be happy to do without it. And thats it.

We really don't need this stuff in the form its in now, we just think we do. Try and go cold turkey - you soon get out of the habit and soon wouldn't miss it at all.

I came off Facebook last year and haven't regretted it for a single moment. Such a waste of my time. Never bothered with Twitter, Instagram, etc. I get my team news form FlashScore (great little app). For those wondering you can deactivate your Facebook account but still use Messenger to maintain chats with your contacts.
