Flags for Deepdale 2022/2023 - PNE Online supporting North End Soul

Could do a vote on the names on here if that helps? I'm a fan of Town End Loyal for one
Whilst applauding the flags initiative, I would like us to be more proactive in generating supporter noise. Deepdale gets going at times but the location of the drum and singers needs looking into. More needs to be done here. I've already posted about the fact that having supporters in the corner often means the chants die down because two sets of fans in the Town End sing at different speeds and people give up trying to join in. It needs to be done from the middle at the back and behind the goal.
100%

Mentioned earlier on thread, I'd be interested as to why the club can facilitate TV camera gantry in the centre on safety grounds but not a small spot to position drummer(s) in a similar place or frame even if it was at the top of block AD or AF ...

Maybe the front of the town end in the middle, like derby do creates a brilliant atmosphere.

The drummer being in the corner goes back to the early 2000s. When the Town End was re-built - 2001 - the stand was initially unreserved. The drummer then was @AndySaville and he used to be positioned on the back row of block AE. We also had a guy who used to play the trumpet who turned up for a few of the games back then as well but apparently joined the band at the Reebok.

Come 2002/03 and home fans were allowed back on the Kop - seats 1-58 and the singing section got split. Around the start of 2003 the "band" switched over to the Kop but @AndySaville packed it in shortly after as it wasn't worth the hassle he was getting. Around 2004 a "new band" was formed and moved back to the Town End because the atmosphere had gone really flat there and the "singers" at the back of the Kop were more interested in "banter" with the away fans. Initially they played on the disabled platform in block AG with Well Done Derek agreeing to build a bandstand. As the Town End was now reserved seating and block AE had no space the bandstand went in block AH, where it remains.

If the Town End was unreserved then it would be switched. One of the reasons the like of Derby and Middlesbrough have their "singing sections" in what was originally the away ends when their grounds were built is because they had the same issue as us in that at the back of their "home end" were long-standing season ticket holders who couldn't be moved to make way for a load of teenagers who wanted to spend 90 minutes jumping around. The only way we'll also solve the issue is by dumping the away fans in blocks G,H & J of the Finney and Preston NE fans having the full Kop. Then a "bandstand" could be added wherever we liked. But to have away fans in the Finney we'd also have to have the directors box in the upper section of the IP and it was effectively make the executive area on the Finney redundant on matchdays, but it would make an excellent fanzone.

Initially waving flags which anyone across the stand will be able to use each home game without any real organisation.

We are surfed out 😝

Pole flags initially depending on how much we raise.

We are thinking roughly 1mx1.5 - fans will be involved in how they are designed within the limits of costs to be produced.

Banners and the like also eventually.

This is important that this is something that can be set up for fans to take part without the need for us to physically do something prior to every game.

That is as a forum of course.

If the folk on this thread can get together and create tiffos or banners for specific games then that's fantastic but not something we can logistically get involved in.

Organising Tiffos will take specific organisation and arranging. Something which whilst we are happy to help support and facilitate its not something we specifically want to be involved in on a match day.

In an ideal world we would be able to hand over to any group to show the flags or surfers and we can sit back and relax 😜

Hopefully that gives more of an idea what we are looking at.

I like the idea of pole flags - initially getting maybe 25/30 in perhaps 3 different blue and white designs would be an ideal starting point and then it can be expanded on for one off designs, no doubt we've got plenty of budding artists willing to submit designs.

In terms of logistics on the day, I'm sure there's somewhere on the concourse that could be used to store the flags. Hardly been on the Town End since it first opened so don't know the layout of it that well but there used to be a kiosk that sold merchandise, I doubt that's used these days so it could be used as a place to store/collect and drop off the flags. I've looked at bit at what Wor flags do and they have people putting then out in the stand the day before a match. Not sure we'd need to do that yet. But also, they get a few "taken home for safekeeping" after every game so that has to be factored in to the numbers purchased. If it did get to the stage where volunteers were needed beforehand, I'd potentially be able to do a couple of hours on a Friday afternoon for Saturday games or in the afternoon before a night match.

Yep.

When we sit down with the club these are the things will we look at.

We are thinking very much along the lines you have mentioned @Oh HughieHughie 👍

Essentially correct but I packed in at the end of the 2006/07 season due to issues with 'standing up' on the Kop and the blame being put on the drummers whilst I'd also fallen out with a number of the kids stood round me about some of the chants they were singing. Our horn ensemble left when Derek pulled the free tickets in 2004/05 but briefly reappeared under Fergie when the other drummer managed to wangle free tickets again and they were placed on the Town End disabled platform.

Totally agree that any kind of noise making needs a back/centre position and also a drummer who can keep time and knows when to not hit his drum (not every song needs the words banging out, Riis Will Tear/Cumbrian Canovaro prime examples). It also needs a load of older fans to stop our singing section being entirely a group of teens/early 20s who think 'he'll shit on your car' is a good chant and 'we're the one & only..' 'Barmy Army' and 'Ryan Lowe's Super...' are different songs.

Whilst I'm not picking up a drum again I have moved seats to further up AKTE block AF so will try and influence what is sung and when. You wouldn't believe how many times I've made Mrs Sav cringe when trying to invent new songs! Just wish we'd sign a lad called Fernando, I have a great ABBA based chant ready to go! 😁

Fantastic effort once again by the North End fanbase.

Only 3 and a bit days in.

Just to put tuppence worth in here. Flags great, drummers in the middle of the town end, why not? But please for the love of god, surely there must me someone who can create more songs, better songs, songs to get the fans off their feet.
Just a thought.

Then let's start a song thread.
Will be open to ridicule, but maybe some good will come from it.

There's a reason Paul McCartney gets paid all that money.
