This morning I'm feeling like Mike Bassett, anyone else feeling that our only chance to stay up is to settle for this system?

Look we may loose goals, but in simple terms, we're creating fook all up top anyway. If we're gonna go down, lets go down fighting. We created close to nothing at Barnsley on Tuesday and a similar amount at Boro the previous week. Lets get two wingers a lot of the ball, (Treacy and Mayor/Hume) encourage them to run at defenders and put some friggin balls into that box.

It's not like we can settle for draws nowadays anyway is it?

I agree with the need to create more chances and give it a much better go in an attacking sense but I'm not sure it's really about systems.

We have been shocking all season irrespective of the formation we've played. I've heard people calling for a narrow 4-4-2 and when we've played it we've been awful, we played an expansive 4-4-2 earlier in the season and got annihilated, the 4-5-1 just left us punchless and the 5-3-2 just hasn't clicked.

For me it's much more about the players than the system but we've almost run out of time to get it right.

I agree mate, I'm not a huge Mayor fan but he was a breath of fresh air when he came on at Barnsley in my opinion, think a 4-4-2 might suit Ashbee better too. Think we'd see a lot more of the ball with Treacy playing the full 90 minutes on the wing and hopefully create plenty more chances than we have been doing.

Good post. The players we have, on current form at least, are not good enough for this level. But that isn't to say we can't get out of this. Look at Crawley Town beating Derby, look at Leyton Orient beating Swansea. If we go in with a positive mental attitude and believe we can win a game then our fortunes can be turned around. This needs to be the players focus rather than the mathematics of the situation; forget what the likes of Sheff. Utd and Scunthorpe are doing and start believing in themselves.

For the record I think a simple 4-4-2 is probably the best formation as all the players will have had a significant run in a side playing in at some point in their career.

We need a formation which gives us a chance of scoring 1st. In PB's 3 league games we have conceded 1st each time.

Then if we do score we need the maturity to control the ball and make the opponants work hard. Barnley had us chasing shadow's and always seemed to have a spare man. A 2nd goal from them was always more likely.

For me 4-4-2 should be used at home, away we can try different strategies
