Get a Grip Surf

Steve

I don't know how you came to be the voice of BBC Lancs at away games but I do recognise your right to speak as an almost obsessive fan of the club. However

If anyone records your offerings you seriously need to listen to yourself. Your pre match 'comments' were so bitter in respect of Westley it was embarrassing to listen to, and I suggest you learn to be a bit (a lot actually) more objective about the club or ask John Roper to stand in for you.

Even after the win you had to point out it was 'players he inherited' who got the points and not his signings.

Well here is a fact for you... it was the players he inherited who got us in this shit long before he arrived!

You actually sounded like one of those who is disappointed when the team does OK because it relieves pressure on the manager. Either give the bloke his chance or do us all a favour and stick to your fans team.

Spot on Mr so called Pne Surf your a pr!ck always have been always will be to full of his own self importance

Surf came across extremely anti-Westley today, as he has every time I've heard him in the new era.

But then again so do most of the presenters, Bayes & Cunliffe in particular, as well as guest pundits Smart & Eyres. Think they're having a good laugh at us to be honest.

I do admit we've had little to get excited about since our Graham's arrival, but now safety is more or less assured, we need to forget we were good 60 years ago and get in the present and hope for improvement in the short term and an assault at promotion next year with the "stellar signings" GW has promised.

Without hope we have jack-****!

Not sure about Eyres-to be honest, I think he's poor on the radio. Never really says anything. Smart, on the other hand, is more forthright with his views and I heard him slating the management last week. And yet, I recall that when Westley was appointed and they played his interview on RL, Smart was waxing lyrical about him, saying that's what we want to hear from a manager, music to my ears etc.

It's a shame if Surf came across this way. I didn't listen as I was away. I'm sure know having met Steve that he cares alot about PNE and has a valid opinion. If he waxed lyrical about PNE when we are shite that's false.

Nobody suggests anyone waxes lyrical because we are indeed a bit shite at present but the point Steve can't seem to see is it was those who were here before Westley who made us so. Westley's job this year is fire-fighting and all that is required from any radio commentator is balance and objectivity.

You mean Steve "We're 4-0 down away to Man Utd but I still believe the 'boys' can turn it around" Cowell has toned down the positivity?

Thank fuck for that!

"So, Steve, are there any good points to be taken from Graham Westley's reign so far."

"Absolutely none."

He's probably right, but it just sounded harsh.

Exactly, he could have said it's early days, etc., but all he's done is de-cry everything Westley is trying to do.

Not saying it's an easy job Surf, and you should speak your mind, but I just feel you gave previous mangers a lot more patience and time. Why is that?

I listened today and thought Steve did a good job, as usual. Too many people look for a reason to attack others. I couldn't do the pundits job!

I agree in some respects but I do find radio/tv pundits become robotic and sterile due to objectivity.
Indeed the only pundit I like on Radio Lancs is Allan Smart but mostly I don't agree with his views .

Steve used to be Mr Positive no matter how dire the situation was. Now he hasn't got a single good thing to say. It couldn't have anything to do with him not being allowed to be 'best mates' with the players anymore, could it?

Absolutely agree

I assume you've not listened to Surf's views lately Joan?

As I've said it is a very difficult job and I wouldn't want to do it, but the thing is he is just so obviously anti-Westley he is not good for moral. We might as well have PNE4LIFE doing the summarising on the next game!

Everybody knows things ain't great at the mo, but to hear Surf just saps any positivity we can cling to right out of you. Of course he is entitled to his views, but I really don't think one so biased should be representing the PNE fans.

Not calling for his head, having met the guy, I have always found him a decent bloke. Just wish he could be a bit more balanced and objective. As I've said Phil Orange was given loads of time and patience as well as signing a load of numpties, but for some reason everyone was prepared to swallow everything he threw at us. I just don't get why Westley has not been given the same level of understanding and respect.

Agree with you,do you not think the lack of patience is just due to the commulative effect of poor football/results under successive managers?

Top bloke is Surf so not sure why people feel the need to have a 'pop' at him.

But maybe if we re-signed 'Chrissy Brown' he would be a bit more upbeat on he radio?

I can't stand Westley. If he were manager of any other club it would please me to see them lose, simply because of him.

Now he's our manager, and I suspect he'll do ok in terms of grinding out results.

I've got to admit it gives me slightly mixed feelings though. Say we got promoted with him; obviously I'd be delighted, but far less delighted than if it were under any other manager.

And I know I'm not alone. Maybe Surf has similar issues.

Me too, Steves a good guy.

The OP is is not a personal attack on Steve Cowell and it doesn't read as one. It is a reality check for him because frankly he sounded very silly today. He even gave Hickson ample opprtunity to go on about how 'depressed' he sounded. He would have enjoyed that!

Somebody informs us the 'pundits job is not easy'...... This may be true but Steve Cowell is not a pundit! He is a disgruntled fan who has previously been allowed to be too close the the team. I believe a fan's place is on the terrace and not behind a microphone, particularly if he is running down the manager who is OUR Club's manager whether individuals like it or not.

I have no doubt Steve Cowell is a good guy....but he is currently acting like a sulky kid on Radio Lancs.

You surprise me Joan. the post you leapt in to agree with was not representative of the O.P. In any case, feedback is like any other unsolicited gift. Steve can either take it in the spirit it was given and make use of it or just ignore it and - in this case - carry on voicing sulky negativity over the airwaves which will no doubt be hilarious for our rivals around Lancashire.

When I am not present at PNE matches I tune in for match commentary on Radio Lancs.

What I want from the commentator and summariser is for them to simply say what they see. Surely that's all anybody listening in want's, honest opinions from those that are there to be transfered through our speakers.

If it's shit, tell us it's shit. If some people don't like listening to the truth then I suggest you listen to a CD instead!
