Has it really been such a bad transfer window for PNE?

Has it really been such a bad transfer window for PNE?

Am i right in thinking any loan we make after today though is the "emergency Loan" therefore they will not be able to stay the rest of the season due to the length of the loan.
i.e possibly another Hulme situation.

Can be here for maximum 93 days dude. Difference is, after August window there was 4 full months, after this window only just over 3 months. So most loans would last till end of season.

So far it is awful.

We have been desperate for a Left Back for so long it is unreal.

Personally unhappy with our central defence. We have no chance of playing with 2 centre backs with the players that we have.

Ashbee should solve the midfield problem, provided he doesn't get injured, and once Linganzi gets back that should be ok.

Up front, I haven't a clue how we will work it. Hume has looked good since he came, but the only decent looking partnership that we had was split up with Parkin's departure. I have been pleasantly surprised with the bits of Ellington that I've seen so far, but Hume, Ellington, Clarke & Hayes don't seem a patch on Dichio, Agyemang, Nugent & Ormerod to me.

Just to add stats:
We now have a squad list of 34 players. 11 of those are under 21, with 2 more (Linganzi & Arestidou) 21.
Of the remaining 21, 6 are either injured or injury prone (Davidson, Both Browns, Parry, Henderson, Coutts). In my book that is very threadbare.

All reasons I'd like to have seen at least another couple of players in.

8/2/11 + 92 days =11/5/11

Regular Season finishes on 8/5/11. If we get in the playoffs though the emergency loans will be ineligible.

Possibly mate.

I have to say I'm mad as fuck at the minute with regards to our activity or lack of it.

I know I keep saying it but we've got 2 massive games coming up and a few new faces would have given everyone at the club a massive lift.

What happens if we lose these games and we're even further adrift come next week. Who the hell would want to come here then?

Some people are never satisfied and you look to be one of those people.

Recently the club has got rid of Ferguson, brought in Brown and Horton, (which obviously cost money), secured Hume, Cort, Linganzi, Ellington, Clarke and now Ashbee, (all other than Linganzi experienced players at this level and three at an even higher level), and turned down bids for Jones, Lonergan and SSL, yet you still moan.

Also there is mention of another player to possibly come in on or after Feb 8th.

You can think what you like, and be as mad as fuck, but in my opinion, the club has done as much as it could be reasonably expected to do in the current financial climate, by bringing in those players, and by turning down what by all accounts were substantial bids for the three players mentioned.

On the face of it, what you say is quite reasonable.

In reality, Lonergan and St Ledger are part of the problem (defensively) and IMO we would have been better off selling, although not on the last day of the window.

Without seeing the team, you can't understand how poor we are. Make no bones about it, even with Brown and Horton, we WILL go down, unless the club invest more. In which case, we would have been better not investing anything.

Couldn't have put it better myself mate.

Investing nothing and having no club, brilliant solution?!

We all know it's going to be a fight, and Brown and Horton have come in to do a job, try and keep us up. Seems like they've been in the club 2 minutes with people like you and Voldemort getting rid of them.

In some respects I hope we do stay up, just so we can laugh at people like you.

Hume, Ellington, Clarke & Hayes don't seem a patch on Dichio, Agyemang, Nugent & Ormerod.

Hume is superior to Ormerod in finishing ability and his equal in effort and is far more consistent than Agyemang.
Ellington might also prove superior to Agyemang and Clarke may be able to replicate Dichio's aerial presence. No-one compares with Nugent. Overall we should be OK upfront providing Hume and Ellington remain fit and available for most matches.

F*cking hell, talk about misreading, what I've said!

I think that getting Brown and Horton in was the best thing the club has done in years. I'm just saying that without more backing we will go down. If that's what the club want they shouldn't have spent the little money they have on players. Brown and Horton have the job of making silk purses out of sows ears and I don't envy them

Quite true, we were desperately short of any backbone in the squad. 5 players (four 1st team players earlier that week) left in 2 days following Fergusons departure, not forgetting Parkin makes 6. Since then we have signed Linganzi (injured for at least a month), Ellington, Clarke and now Ashbee. We are desperate for a left back and some bit of creativity upfront, whether a goalkeeper, centre half or rightsided midfielder are needed is debatable..
The squad is overrun with players not good enough and youngsters who may or may not make it at this level.

I look at it this way

IN

Ellington (unfit, out of form, gamble hope it pays off)
Linganzi (crocked and may be no use till we are already down)
Clarke (shit - hope I'm wrong)
Ashbee (old and shit - hope I'm wrong)

OUT

Nolan (undisclosed)
Chaplow 50k
Parkin 300k
Tonge (recalled)
Pugh (recalled)
King (recalled)
De Laet (recalled)
James (recalled early)

5 prem players out, fuck all in. Hume & cort were already here so don't count, chaplow & nolan do count because they could have been recalled.
Shit window

With respect PNE in Granby, the league table illustrates precisely how poor we are, I have got that message clearly.

I can also see that in the recent weeks since Brown and Horton took over, we have improved defensively, and now with the addition of some grit in midfield by way of Ashbee, that can surely only add to our defensive toughness............and maybe Phil Brown thinks it better to go forwards with the likes of Lonergan, SSL, Cort, Wayne Brown and Ashbee making it hard to penetrate our defense down the middle, than risk wholesale and drastic changes such as selling SSL and Lonergan at this stage of the season.

I understand where you are coming from, but would prefer to put my trust in the fact that perhaps Brown and Horton know a tad more than you when it comes to deciding who should stay and who should go.

We are more defensively sound now than at any other time this season, you cannot deny that, and as I say, the addition of Ashby can only improve that defensive soundness.

Agree with this, but at the moment Brown seems to be intent on using Ellington as an impact sub. Don't know whether he would have made the starting line-up on Saturday, but we need him match fit and capable of having an impact for the full 90 minutes as soon as possible.

This looks like a good move for North End. If Ashbee does play up to expectation his seniority and experience might well influence the performances of those around him for the better, which is what is needed if we are to claw ourselves out of the relegation places.

We haven't looked any more defensively sound at all. We've just had more bodies in the way, and been luckier at not conceding (Although Shankly's quote about luck does come to mind!).

I don't claim to know more than Brown or Horton, all I'm implying is that we've got the finger in the dam, and that's all. SSL still makes far too many mistakes, and there is no join between goal keeper and defence still!

Ashbee is a great signing provided that he stays fit enough to play, but it still seems to me like far too little.
