Gentry Day 2025 – Hull City (Easter Monday, 21st April)

Memories logo copy.webp

This year’s annual Gentry Day will now take place at the away fixture against Hull City on Easter Monday, 21st April 2025.

While Gentry Day is a celebration that brings our supporters together in style and spirit, it remains a poignant occasion – a day to remember and honour members of the Preston North End and wider North End community who are no longer with us.

As always, PNE-Online is proud to support Gentry Day, and we invite you to share tributes and dedications for loved ones you wish to be remembered by the Preston North End faithful at the MKM Stadium.

You’re welcome to include as much or as little detail as you like in your tribute.

Those proudly donning their bowler hats in Hull will be doing so in their memory.

Running along side the Gentry thread I thought it would be nice to have a seperate post to pay tribute to forum members who are no longer with us.

Some that immediately come to mind:

Shaky.

A larger than life character who, if you crossed him you didnt half know about it 🙂 Some wonderful threads with great, often crigeworthy, memories.

Dirk PNE Mouse

I'll never forget the night when I got the message that he had passed, I just felt numb. I was so glad to count him as a friend. A very deep character who, again, came over as abrasive yet the guy wrote some incredibly inspirational Poetery.

Outreacher

Possibly one of the most interesting characters that have graced this forum, prolific in the news section and was one of those people you could never put in a box, his views, often contoversial but always thoughtfull and chllenged the narrative whether that was left or right.

So sadly missed.

I could write so much about so many that are no longer with us who weve all had the privilige of getting to know a little on here. Most we've never met yet you feel a friendship, a kindred spirit with them as weve all mused on their prose and often poetry on our tiny little section of the internet.

Over to you with your memories of those who will be doffing their Bowlers to all those in Hull and watching elsewhere this weekend.

Wonderful people all of them. I knew Shaky personally and he was an absolute joy, I wish he could have seen himself through they eyes of his friends he would have been so happy and proud and rightly so.

I had a virtual cup of coffee with Dirk a lot of mornings. He always came across on a one to one basis as a very caring and understanding man and a great dad.

Outreacher again a lovely person who, although I never met him was very caring imo.

All three of them are deeply missed and it was an honour to converse with them all.

Remembering Mum (Elizabeth) Dad (Bob) my sister Helen Proctor & our friends Tommy Davis , Pat Brown & Brian Eastham.

Watching over us & never forgotten. All missed by their family and friends.

Andy & Family
I knew and worked with Tommy and Brian, both big NorthEnders.

Tommy especially was a wonderful human being.

God Bless all dearly departed, especially my Grandad, Leo, who cursed me sporting wise by starting taking me on't Nobbers in 1978. Miss you Grandad x.

can I please add Janet McDonalds name, the Leyland bus lady who never missed a game, a nobber till the day she sadly left us, love you Janet and so do so many x

I went to Newcastle late 70's on a Tuesday night Fishwick coach. Memory is going but sure was organised by Janet or Maureen. Also did Swansea on a Friday night and they organised a minibus.

RIP

My Dad , Brian Rigby , bled Preston , the town and then city , born and bred in Preston, missed 2 Home games in 55 seasons , I’ve programmes from 133 clubs he went to watch Preston at , he was like me an amateur historian and his depth of knowledge of Preston both historical and social was staggering , followed and played for ( as did I ) the Preston Pirates American football team ( who played at Deepdale on the plastic pitch , loved Speedway and wrote a book on Preston Speedway 1928-1932 and whilst I’m biased a throughly great chap , sorely missed.

I will be at Hull tomorrow as it’s the ‘ fans day , it’s special , unique and it’s ours 👍👍

Here’s our small tribute to every North Ender we’ve lost over the past 12 months.

Whether they stood on the terraces, travelled the country, or simply lived with the club in their heart — they were one of us.

They are The Gentry.

“Preston fans are the best – they are The Gentry.”
– Alan Ball Snr

Watch the full tribute video below and join us in remembering them on Gentry Day 2025.

Hats off.
