Have we Improved under Heckingbottom?

North end still have to play...

1st Coventry (a) 1-1 (h)
2nd Boro (a) 2-2 (h)
3rd Ipswich (a) 1-0 (h)

But, here is where our fate will really be sealed imo...

5th Millwall (h) 1-1 (a)
6th Watford (h) 1-1 (a)
7th Hull (h) 2-2 (a)
8th Stoke (h) 0-0 (a)

Unbeaten against all 7 so far this season. Those games against 5th - 8th will prove pivotal imo.

Am I allowed to quote your prediction for last season's run in, or will you get upset?

Hecky has brought in players with a winning mentally in training and matches and he sends them out with belief they can win every game. Need to get more people inside Deepdale and really get behind this squad of players who are giving 100%

Fire away.

Last season, whatever I posted, was a completely different mood both at PNE and for myself personally.

Sometimes we get stuff right, sometimes wrong predicting.

What I will say is is that we were lucky to stay up last season after that late late collapse.

Did I post before or after the Villa game? Because my Twitter feed was in late March / early April saying that staying up wasn't a foregone conclusion. Happy to put my tweets up showing so.

Feb 12th 😂

Shows how bad everything post Villa became.

On paper, they did look favourable but then Woodman and McCann plus Potts got injured.

I did say - somewhere - that we wouldn't keep a Clean Sheet with Cornell in pegs. I suppose I got that gem right! As obvious as it was, I'm claiming it! 😂🕵️‍♂️

Probably pretty happy he didn't get the Plymouth job in the end. They chose Rooney over him unless he turned them down after being interviewed.

Plymouth now barely above the bottom four in league one.

I think we show more passionate and fight most games, the relationship between manager, players and fans is good, (that's a very important factor for me) we have some promising young loaned and I think Heckingbottom, knows a decent player when he sees one. I'm happy with the guy, tends to say it like it is and doesn't spout crap.

If we are in the top six after those games I feel the play offs are on.

Hello everyone,
I haven’t posted for quite a while — in fact, not since the summer. In another thread back then, I shared the following…

I always try to be optimistic at the start of a new season, but I’m really struggling this time.

I’m just not a fan of Heckingbottom. There’s something about him that doesn’t inspire any confidence. His style of play, the way he sets up the team, and even his general presence just don’t fill me with belief that we’ll do well or even be okay this season.

Recruitment has been average at best. When you look around the league and even at some League One clubs, they’ve strengthened better than we have. The players we’ve brought in so far feel like a reflection of the manager — uninspiring.

Some of the contract decisions are baffling. Why has Milly’s mate been handed a three year deal and Smith two years? I haven’t seen or heard anyone from the club give a proper explanation. Someone needs to take responsibility for the Thompson signing too. If we knew he was injured, even without knowing the extent, why go through with it? And don’t get me started on the Okkels situation last season.

Honestly, I’m not convinced we were ever serious about signing Kone or Lang. It felt more like a PR move. Make a show of bidding just to say, “Look, we’re trying,” without any real intent to get deals over the line. Deep down, it seems like the club doesn't actually want to spend.

That said, I wouldn’t want serious money spent while PH is still in charge anyway. Nothing I’ve seen suggests we’re anything but a bottom three side right now.

I do think there’ll be a change of manager at some point this season. If it comes before January, we might need to dip into funds just to stay in the league.

I really hope I’m wrong, but I haven’t felt this uneasy about a PNE season in a long time.

I’ve returned to say that I couldn’t have been more wrong if I’d tried. What a job Heckingbottom has done this season! I’m genuinely delighted to admit that I got it completely wrong, and even more pleased to see the team doing so well. Long may it continue.

Hats off to PH and SMc — I’m more than happy to admit I was wrong!
