However, it's easy to forget how dire the football actually was during the final quarter of last season and how there seemed to be no identity to our style of play.

However, it's easy to forget how dire the football actually was during the final quarter of last season and how there seemed to be no identity to our style of play.

Happy to have been proven wrong!

I think there was an identity to the style of play, as we played well enough in periods up to March, as we were performing as a mid table team, with a squad that was poor outside of the main starting 11.

But then injuries hit, and a congested fixture schedule because of our cup run. So there was a big deal of context as to why things all of a sudden turned for the worse. Nearly turned into a recipe for disaster. Thankfully it didn't result in that, and he was able to get the type of players in to suit how he wanted to play, on a very limited budget too.

I voted yes at the time as to me it was blatantly obvious that the issue wasn't Heckingbottom and McCall.

We were seriously lacking in quality and the injuries, McCann in particular, did not help at all. They addressed it in the summer and we are where we are on merit.
