Heckingbottom

Probably been posted somewhere already, but..

EFL table since Blackburn got a new manager:

I'd happily have Michael O'Neil here if he quit Northern Ireland. One of the few who has done OK with Stoke.

10pts from 13 games, only Sheff Weds worse than us.

After last season’s collapse, it’s pretty damning stuff.

Hecky really can’t complain if people have had enough.

Absolutely awful.

I knew it had to be some serious drop off to end up where we are now from our position in January but looking at that is shocking.

The sooner the takeover happens the better , while I understand the frustration for me Hecky has had his arms tied behind his back, as mentioned he has tried to get players in we just will not match the wages its not the management its the owners not willing to pay todays going rate . If the takeover happens I hope Zedan gives him the tools he requires to at least get us with a chance of competing .

Well, we can give the manager more time but if we aren't doing any of the other positive Lincoln things (and we aren't) then it's probably going to continue the same way it has this season.

Worth a listen. Definitely not just about 'giving the manager time' and more about establishing a culture for your coaches to succeed without spending much money.

I don't get the way everyone on here was unanimous Lowe needed to go but quite a few don't feel the same with a vastly inferior points per game, win percentage and league positions from the current guy.

Good listen you have to laugh to see our expensive signing Bayliss who flopped because he wasn't given a chance ( played 12 games over 2 seasons) ripping it up with Lincoln (played 39 games this season)
we will have to see how he does in the championship but when you are building for the future you have to give young players more game time ..

I agree with a lot of that; if we’d got McBurnie for example instead of Smith, we wouldn’t be in this mess.

But that’s no excuse for persisting with Smith in dead rubber games, mind-numbingly dull football, negative tactics, terrible substitutions, poor treatment of young players and putting out a team with all the backbone of a jellyfish.

I’ve always thought it would be worth seeing what he could do if backed properly, but overall I think that’s probably just a waste of time now.

Even if he starts next season in charge, he won’t survive another bad run after the past two seasons.

Didn't even think he had played that much. Must have been a few cameos off the bench that I'd forgotten about.

Worth noting he has spent 5 seasons in league 1 since leaving us. It's not really like we've missed out on a superstar by not giving him a chance.

It was a stupid idea to spend all that money on in our strongest position at the time, but can't really say that he should have played ahead of any of Browne, DJ, Pearson, Gally (then also likes of Ledson and Harrop too) or argue with letting him go when we did.

He probably knows more than he leads on. All smiles at the end of the game after losing and now he is sending Stuart McCall to do the pre-match interviews. I doubt that he is bothered if the writing is in the wall. He was sat on the beach when PR picked up his mobile and asked him to rescue us after the RL disaster

I am on the fence with Heckingbottom, I won't be upset if replaced but at the same time it would be interesting to see what he can do with more resources. Before this seasons New Years collapse I thought we were playing some good attacking football, and looked solid at the back, like the season before . Heckingbottom has to shoulder some of the blame for the collapses but I guess somethings were beyond his control

I honestly think if we were 10/11th, the football was good, we were scoring loads of set pieces and with nothing to play for we playing Small, Moran and Offiah every game plus getting minutes off the bench from one of two of the academy lads and experimenting moving away from the dreaded back 5, Heck would be giving the fans very little to moan about.

It's the fact we are so far behind and every stat, like last season is so alarming.

The management of Bayliss (and this was under Neil) could literally be a lesson for young coaches on how not to develop young players.

Insane. Literally missed the most important footballing years rotting here. Fair play to him for coming back where others like Adam Barton have fallen off the face of the earth.

He's not a star for them by the sounds of it. More a squad player I think.

Hard not to listen to that and think of everything Peter Ridsdale has done since the Pearson and DJ year.

The bit where they are like 'selling your starts for good fees at the perfect time is integral to clubs without millions flourishing. Christ.

I suspect he’s a dead man walking on every metric.

The only question is whether we announce he’s gone at the end of the season or over the summer with any takeover.

There’s a chance the old guard just leave it to any incoming administration but the die is most likely already cast.

Jury will always be out on that though as we prevented him playing in the most important formative years of his career. Could have been really decent at this level, we'll never know as he was kept in the reserves forever.

Yes of course, but I trust that Alex Neil didn't see enough from him to warrant giving him minutes over those mentioned, and he didn't really do anything on loan at Wigan either.

We shouldn't have wasted our money and he should have signed for a team that actually needed him. Then he might have realised his full potential.

Be interesting to see how he does nonetheless. Some players just have an unorthodox trajectory. Maybe he'll come into the Championship and do really well now.

People still bite my head off when I point out Alex Neil squandered Gordon on the bench.

He had his reasons, of course, but it was often the case that if he didn’t want to accommodate a particular way of playing he’d dig in and stick to his guns.

Probably not always a bad thing for a manager to have that attribute, but it must be pretty shit if you’re a player with super high potential on the wrong side of that when Seani Maguire is starting up top.

Any player who ends up being worth 8 or 9 figures should probably be able to get games in the Championship as they are developing

Alex didn’t leave Gordon out because he was stuck to his way of playing. He left him out because of his attitude and conduct in training. He arrived on the loan immediately believing he was above everyone else and didn’t think he needed to apply himself. What he went for later on is irrelevant, whilst he was with us, he wasn’t reliable

It’s also worth noting that 9 of his 11 appearances came under Neil, including 5 starts. It was Frankie that left him on the bench

Is that fact or rumour? Because I hear it quoted a lot but he seems to have cracked on and not have this issue elsewhere.

Well I was told it by somebody very close to a member of the backroom staff (who had no time for Neil btw so had no reason to lie in support of him). He’s kicked on since, in part because the feedback from the loan wasn’t well received by Everton which I’m assuming gave him the cue to sort himself out.

But the facts speak for themselves in that he was used significantly more under Neil than he was under Frankie. And that’s despite the fact when he was on the pitch, he contributed nothing except the odd fancy turn.

I stand corrected on the Alex Neil / Frankie blame.
