Heckingbottom

Shit since coming back from an injury.
Maybe he should be considering a Rugby League career the way he's been taking lessons from Alec Lindsay in wrestling.

Become ball-shy & stands-off / backs off players rather than getting closer to his man to both:-
(a) narrow the angles of the attackers possible ball disruption
(b) Buying his teammates a bit of time to get back by 'stalling' the man with the ball .
I know this is basic/kids stuff again, so wtf?

One appearance for B&HA in five years. Loans at Stoke & Plastics + some Yank lot.
Fan bloody tastic

Sick note.

I remember when £1 M got you a Top-Class CHAMPIONSHIP player.
That was about Two Decades ago .
Assuming what you’re saying in terms of player tactics is correct!then you’re really having a go at the coaching because players play how the coach want them if they want to be selected.Whichever way you look at it Hecky out because coaching has moved on from his talk of running around and desire to patterns of play to get the ball to your most comfortable in possession players to control possession.See any patterns of play ?🤷‍♂️

1.5 million got you a top class championship player a few seasons ago.
Gyokores and Hamer both signed for Coventry for that amount.
£750k got Adam Randell this summer, who walks into our midfield. Galbraith £1.6m. De Keersmaecker just over £1m...
Blackburn paid just over a million for Ohashi. A million for Burrell at QPR.

There's still plenty of value in today's market. Offiah is a bargain and I think Moran will turn out to be a good player. The Small fee proved under 24 players from L1 can be hoovered up for peanuts.

If you're buying from us, you only need 250k at most to get a Top Championship Player, because we've usually totally mismanaged their contracts

'Patterns of Play' sounds like a phrase people such a Ryan Lowe type might get a badge for. Or a US 'Soccer' Academy.
Yep, call me a silly reactionary, and no doubt someone like Pep would be correct if he did hear/read my criticism. What with the best facilities, the highest skillset players, the most athletically fit players, all at his disposal, Pep IS right. But then transfer all that theoretical stuff to a Mid-table Champ. Club playing another Mid-table Champ. Club.....and a great deal of that tactical stuff like "patterns" is simply not relevant. Because we are dealing with literally second grade footballers who have inferior levels of , well , most things to do with the game .
The core defending players at PNE right now in 2026 were starting at Deepdale under Alex Neil. You can't teach old dogs new tricks .
( Btw everything wrote above is not wrong- it's correct. It just isn't applicable at PNE, sadly. )
I think Heck/McColl are just going through the motions right now.

I don't really understand this first point. Do you think outside of the Premier league it just drops to schoolboy kick and rush?

They're all very highly paid professional footballers, who could be top flight in other countries.

Tactics, patterns of play and such aren't exclusive to the elite teams. Just look at Bodo/Glimt or NEC Nijmegen and how their intentionally progressive styles of play are causing them to punch miles above their weights, domestically and in Europe. They certainly aren't doing that based on being the very best footballers or athletes.

Maybe it does but will we pay the wages these players want?

For all we here crying about Venkys I am sure their playing budget is much greater than ours. Plus work on the pitch would not come out of the playing budget.

The McBurnie situation sums it up for me. Proven striker on a free, worked with the manager before but wanted more than we are prepared to pay and a more ambitious club.

We end up with Jebbison and a non entity Serbian kid and wonder why we never score.

I don't think any of those players would be on wages we couldn't afford. Though I think De Keersmacker was reported as closer to 2.5m as a fee at the time?

Fact is that we had one vacancy in the midfield this summer and we chose to fill it very early, with an injured Jordan Thompson. That wasn't forced upon us.

I don't think any of those players would be out of our wage structure. Obviously things like location play a part, but none of those players were unrealistic before they joined their current clubs.

I'd say the tactics are a bigger issue than our strike force in terms of our lack of goals.

I can’t see that to be honest….

Why would he walk away from a hefty salary.
Leaving the club could mean sacked (or mutual termination) too I guess? But I think this is probably wishful thinking, we don't sack managers unless we are close to relegation under the current ownership.

100% agree. I’d attempt to offer a detailed view of our tactics but I’m not really sure what they are meant to be. I can’t see how we go the pitch proactively aiming to win games other than “let’s try and keep it tight lads and hope something crops up”.

Early season Iversen helped massively with the former and some of the new attacking players were doing a decent job of producing moments of magic. Iversen gets injured, whatever coaching has been imposed on the attackers has made them worse and here we are. The end of the season can’t come soon enough.

The main worry for me is that we could finish the season in 21st and hexkingbottom stays on next season.

He got a pass last season because of the mess Lowe left us in and the lack of a proper pre-season.

This year, it’s his squad so that’s not going to wash.

However, he did have to build that squad with very little money.

(Imagine if we’d got McBurnie instead of Smith, for example.)

I’m not saying he’s blameless - he’s making a right mess of it at the moment and looks like he’s given up.

But he was dealt a shit hand.

Just like the next guy will be until these owners depart.

The problem with McBurnie was the wage demands he made. We were not prepared to pay what his agent demanded.
Smith was an easy option, no fee involved just his wages but a complete waste of a wage, the worse signing since Tony Lormor.

The Serbian was signed just in case we managed to get a club to buy Milly.

The clubs in a mess as regards what they are willing to spend which is next to nothing.

Hopefully we will be in the championship next season but if there is no investment in the summer then we will be in the position until we drop out.

There are a host of players that need moving on in the summer.
This this board need to sell and be quick about it
The whole recruitment set up needs reviewing with better staff employed
The coaching staff need a good looking at as well. A new set piece coach, a defence coach required.
A new manager?

If any truth in Facebook rumout about Hecky leaving..... then it would have gathered momentum by now.
I'd have thought unlikely but not impossible if he feels he's had enough like AN did

Tony Lormor, not a name I'd thought I would ever see again
