Heckingbottom

Or - the pitch was finally in a state where you can play that way.

We tried to play the same way against Wigan in the cup. Didn’t go well.

Any suggestion we’ve been poor for a couple months because Dobbin and Devine haven’t always both started is, of course, complete simplistic guff. Very on-brand, mind.
Come on mate can’t be pinning it all on the pitch when we’ve been honking in away games on absolute carpets as well. Fully agree at home it stifles our best players but we’ve not been firing with them away either.

Good win and good performance tonight. He's still got to earn back the trust though.
Everytime he brings Smith on, it's a step backwards in gaining that trust.

Tonight was just giving him a few minutes at the end.

Did say during the game I do think he's rotated way too much for some of the midweek games this season. Can understand to a degree him wanting to give Jebbison serious minutes but tonight showed front 3 of Osmajic-Devine-Dobbin is clearly the best at the club, certainly against other mid table teams.

Only one of them started at Norwich.

Quite correct. If I was managing a team winning 3-1 and playing well, I'd let them enjoy themselves.

He's missed some pretty obvious ones recently to be fair. Like finally trying 4 at the back, but doing it with 4 centre halves whilst having a bench full of full/wing backs.
I agree that Heckingbottom is a flawed manager in areas, I feel he should've brought Small on when Lang went off injured rather than Jebbison.

I just think this capitulation is so much more deep rooted then players who have started together. It goes from top to bottom, there are still too many players who are here, who have been here too long while stinking the place out.

I agree that part of the blame goes on Heckingbottom and I do believe parting ways at the end of the season is in the best interest for both parties, but like I said before, we'll never truly know what's gone so wrong since January.

If that’s the performance of a team who’s no longer playing for the manager (obviously complete bollocks), then we’d be world beaters if they were playing for him!

Organised, efficient, and ran their socks off.
Agreed. But I'd still say goodbye at the end of the season.

Our only win has come against a team who somehow gives less fucks than us. This chancer cannot be in charge next season. 2 wins in 14.

Yep, but everything’s fine again now.

The 25% win rate (or whatever shite it is) is irrelevant now because some of our fans literally base everything on the last game.

That said, last night was a delight so fair play.. lets see if we can keep it going and finish strong.

Be interesting to see what he does when Thompson and McCann are available again. Surely he can see that we are much better when we have a more balanced midfield and that Moran is much better than just a bench player.
It is horses for courses. We were good at Ipswich with McCann, Whiteman, and JT. We were good at Bristol City with Devine, Whiteman, and JT.

Last night, Moran & Devine played played because the manager identified the need for a midfielder who would run beyond their last line because of how Stoke squeeze the pitch. Both of Devine’s goals came from just that - evidently was worked on.

He should be giving Lukavic minutes to show what he can do otherwise send the lad back. A total waste of time bringing him in if he doesn't get a chance. If he cannot get on ahead of Smith he must be bad!

I thought they played because of a lack of defensive options tbh!

He said post-match that he was thinking of playing Pottsy in midfield.

Thought Potts did well as a sub last night but he looks very heavy now.
Potts has a great knack of getting into good areas, which is why this is probably the role that does suit him best (as a backup) whilst he's still here. But he was so sluggish.

Didn't even go for that cross from Small even though it was only about a yard away from him.

Said after game he's definitely lost a couple of yards. Injuries seem to have taken their toll, which is a shame.

Might not be as obvious if he could get properly match fit but it's been an appearance here and there hasn't it and he'll never get fully up to speed like that (this is not me advocating for him to be starting games, for the avoidance of doubt).

How many managers do you think we may need to go through before you come to the conclusion that the problem is not necessarily the manager, but the person dictating the budget and failing to back them? I very much doubt that Smith was the choice of PH, more likely Ridsdale's "it's Smith or nobody". If I remember correctly PH wanted McBurnie but the IOM wouldn't release the funds.
