Heckingbottom

Given what he inherited (season before had us 19th from mid-September onwards, seven losses in a row with no goals, awful summer window), it’s not particularly surprising we finished where we did last season.

One of the comments under that tweet suggests Bristol City had a wage bill for players of £26 million - the figure quoted is suggested to be including all staff. I wonder if any other clubs have a similar ‘discrepancy’, assuming of course the comment is correct. That would put them level with us!

Since we beat Swansea 2-1 on Nov 5th at Deepdale, we have only won 3 Home Games v Sheff Wed, Portsmouth and Stoke.

If he stays, then he needs a very fast start in August and September or he'll be gone by the Nations League 3 Week International Break which commences on Sept 24th.
Do we have that in writing?
😉

It was massively surprising where we finished given the position before the Villa game. These tables don't and never have dictated league outcomes and club finances are much more complicated (check out agent fees paid by PNE to see how much bang for our buck we get). If they did, there's no point going to watch or even to play the actual football bit.

PNE has never been a picnic. It's a tough job with little resource. I don't need a table to tell me we have a bottom three or four wage bill. What are we doing to counter that the way all the other clubs do? Signing Callum Lang and fucking up FFP even post Zedan takeover? Nice one.

It was a disgrace we couldn't get the points together in that final stanza until the final day. I don't care what the wage bill was, it showed a lack of pride throughout the playing and coaching staff.

Yes, agreed.

'These tables don’t dictate outcomes' is arguing against a point nobody is making. Nobody claims finances guarantee success every single season. Football obviously still has variance - injuries, managers, recruitment, tactics, luck etc all matter. That’s why the sport is entertaining.

But over time, in the Championship especially, financial strength absolutely correlates with success. Clubs with parachute payments and the highest wage bills consistently finish towards the top. That’s not an opinion, it’s just observable reality over years.

And not sure what your point is about agent fees, but as I've said on here before a month or so ago, our agent fees this year worked out as less per player than the last financial year (and the year before). It will always be higher if you sign more players, logically.

PH states his case yet again with a “That’s why I want to be here”.

Yeah. Pfft, I don't like Heck so take it for what it is but I can't help but think he'd have attacked this better from a 'I can't comment, I only focus on the management of the players' angle. It seems needy. Nobody needs your views on what's going on. Zedan and his people will judge it but at minute it seems like he's interviewing for his job...with George Hodgson. 🤣

Seems like the actions of a man who knows he probably should have done a lot better with what he's had.

You’ve been complaining about how negative Heckingbottom’s style is for months but now want Scott Parker here. That’s one way of saying you’ve never watched his teams

He wouldn't nearly get us relegated or barely get any points over 6 months.

Played well with a back 4.
Changes it to a back 3 once again.
Playing Potts and Storey against Scienza.
Did he even scout Southampton?

Get rid.

Slating Heckingbottom and asking for Parker is pure insanity.

Parkers had a cheque book 100x the one Heckingbottom has had and, by all accounts, dished up the same style. Just with better quality.

Ridiculous.

It's not actively asking for Parker, obviously, it's just saying he's a better manager which he is

In your opinion. Which I disagree with. I'm not saying Heckingbottom is better either btw. I just don't see any arguments that are comparable to make that judgement.

I've seen Parker change formations and try different tactics, not just stick to the same shit 3 at the back formation that clearly doesn't work and only make like for like subs

He's had the fortune of a budget that enables that. And I think Burnley would have a different view on that.

I'm sure Sheffield United fans have seen Heckingbottom do what you've just described Parker of doing.

Like I say, I have no horse in this race. Just a silly comparison in my opinion.

4 wins in 20 championship games since Jan 4th.

I gave him a pass (just about) last season as that end of season run was bizarre.

Form in second half of the season has been very poor when 6th place was certainly achievable when you look at Derby currently making it on 72 points.

He'll be gone very soon if this takeover actually happens as for a start the ambition standards need to be raised from manager down.

Just as a comparison in last 20 games Oxford have won 6 championship games and they were relegated before they kicked off their penultimate match.
