Heckingbottom

HECKY has had 2 seasons now and we have been mediocre at best under him, flashes of good football but also disasters. Those disasters have been caused by awful team selection and substitutions. So that's down to him.

I thought he would be a good appointment until he brought SMITH in and then my thoughts changed. He brought SMITH on when others should have been considered first.

In fairness to him he wanted McBURNIE but his wage demands were too great so he went to HULL and if they get promoted via the play offs then it has been money well spent.

Our owners have been very poor in the transfer support category and that is why we have struggled to compete. With a bit more backing we could have been in there as at the turn of the year we were 4th and in with a great shout.

The signing of Lang looks pretty poor at the moment, Moran looks a decent lad

If the take over takes place then PH and SM should be replaced asap to allow the new man to get the players in.

Will that happen? its anyone's guess.

To be fair, paying over £2m for a forward and another million or so on Moran is decent backing by PNE standards, the decision to spend that £2m on someone who appears to be a walking injury was the issue. In addition to a loan striker that apparently no one scouted.

This summer was also supposedly our biggest spend in a single window since returning to the Championship.

Heckingbottom has been much better backed than Alex Neil was under Trevor. In my opinion, we need to be actively on the hunt for someone who could be the same level as Neil, Heckingbottom clearly isn't.

I think the season as a whole we have spent more but I think we spent more in the 23-24 window but then that was followed up by signing no one in Jan.

Just going off what Ridsdale said. We brought in a lot of players so I guess he's talking about agent fees, signing on fees, and loan fees, in addition to the £1.7m(ish) spent on actual transfer fees.

Imagine Daniel Iversen got a big lump sum for joining, for example.

We just keep getting sold short by the owners. They make no secret of their intention to sell but surely invest some more money and hopefully we will be higher up the table and the club is then in a better place to advertise itself and be more financially viable. Speculate to accumulate. If they had we might just have done a Coventry and got in the big time then the could have recouped their outlay and some more, its not rocket science.

You have to look at it compared to the rest of the league as spending 2mil on a player then isn’t what it is now. We used to be able to buy some of the top talents in league 1. Now league 1 top players are out of our budget.

In the 20/21 season Neil left we spent roughly 3mil which was the 11th highest spend. This season we spent roughly 4.5mil which was 20th in amount spent. The season before this 22nd highest spend. To be 11th in terms of spend this season we’d have had to spend around 14 mil. It’s the whole reason we need new owners cause the current ones simply can’t back us financially while keeping us competitive

True, the money has escalated a lot, but I still think we'll have a lower half budget under Zedan, and I don't ever see Heckingbottom being a manager who delivers beyond what's expected. I'd like to think new ownership will be proactive in trying to unearth a manager who can go the extra mile, rather than just accepting our lot.

I'm SF88 BTW.

I've not heard this statistic mentioned yet; no team in the league scored more counter-attacking goals than us this season. We top the table with 13, with Hull coming second with 11.
Conversely, we finished 20th in the league for goals from open play.
We also finished 21st for xG and bottom second for shots taken per goal, putting us 8th in xGdiff. For those who don't care for stats, you will be surprised to hear that it means we've been fairly clinical with our shooting, at least metrically speaking.

I like counter attacking football. I just feel like collective bums off seats with the cry of "come on!" before the net bulges feels nostalgic, like a thing of the past.
I'd like us to continue building a squad in this regard, but the lack of goals from elsewhere is definitely a thing to iron out for Heckingbottom if he stays.

I agree with this. I’m not a fan of the style of possession football, especially when a lot of fans constantly state we play sideways and backwards. It can boring really quick especially when you don’t have the players who are able to control games and unlock defences.

I think our squad suits the structured defence and counter attacking style. And I don’t mind seeing it continue.

What needs improving on is the formation. Back 5 is too negative and with a back 4 you can still play that style. We need to improve in the quality of players who are able to string more than 3 passes together. Because half time it just punishes us. Especially in the games where we seem to dominate possession but always struggle to break down teams.

Is this how low we have become celebrating a number of games in charge instead of win ratio!
Sad Arrested Development GIF

When has any club, let alone ours, ever posted about a manager's win ratio?

As has been discussed before, it's a bit of a nonsense metric anyway because it entirely depends on the context of the clubs situation and the squad they have at their disposal.

Players and managers should be and are recognised for their milestone games. It's just normal fucking practice.
