As we all are far too aware, it’s always the hope that kills you With North End.

With recent activity, some ground refurbishments (well over due and long may they continue) new kit and recent/ongoing activity in the transfer market. What is your hope/expectation for a successful season 2023/24 ?

I hope for a successful season but don't expect one.

I’m always a little conflicted with regard to hopes, dreams and ambitions. On the one hand, PNE walking the league with 100+ points would be ideal, simply competing every week, being in with a chance in every game and pushing for top 6 would to me constitute a successful season. Main conflict I have is that going up could potentially secure us financially for a good few years, possibly lead to someone buying the club and really getting rid of ‘the shackles’ once and for all. We could improve the academy and build for a successful and sustainable future. With all this comes the harsh reality- if we did go up, next season would be a miserable one. I’m not personally interested in PL and don’t idolise the players the way many others do. True football fans first and foremost live and breathe the game. For those people, seeing some of the greatest players at Deepdale would be amazing, I’d get to tick off more grounds, which would be ace… but we’d get battered every week and I hate it when that happens! Jeez I’ve only just recovered from Burnley last season. What would City do to us? 😂

Comfortably finishing outside the relegation zone and a little cup run.

City away in a cup run ideally. Missus is a season ticket holder at Citeh so it would be class to go and hurl abuse at her and her old man without any repercussions

A successful season would be to have a go at the play offs as unrealistic as that sounds. Very reluctantly renewed my season ticket this year in the hope we actually started or tried to at least play attractive enjoyable football, as last season was abysmal to watch at times. I just want to look forward to going to watch us again, which I didn't last season. (At times it was a massive chore).

The point at the weekend whilst it was a good point, thought the first half and up until they scored was same old conservative contain the other team tactics from Lowe. When we went behind I thought then we then started to look a good attacking team, if we could replicate that every week and play on the front foot and a little flirt with the play offs, that would do for me!

In your opinion what does success look like for PNE ?
IMHO challenging for the Play Offs right till the end of the season. We need to find a way to avoid the end of season drop offs in form.. I do agree with some of Mooneys sentiments somewhat....The EPL is not the be all and end all & would probably be a sobering experience. BUT... I would like to see us in the top flight at least once in my lifetime

For me, success is the club giving me hope. Not necessarily quantifiable in terms of league position but clear evidence that there's a plan within the club to grow stronger and more sustainable and the will to make it happen.

I was very negative 2-3 months ago but some of the summer work (particularly the fact we are signing up players on decent length contracts which is a clear difference from last year) has made me feel more positive.

For me success for 2023/24, would be progress based upon
  • Peter Ridsdale becoming the Preston North End chairman (spokesperson ?) on 6 December 2011 (12 years ago)

  • 8 years of continuous Championship football
And success for me would comprise securing a league position higher than that of the past 8 seasons and be positioned better commercially as a stand alone club.
