Horrible matches

Horrible matches

Probably the PO semi final second leg at Deepdale where we played 5 up front, Billy Davies sat grimly in the dugout as the lights went out, and Brett Ormerod had his leg broken.
Actually, this. Think I try and erase it from my mind. My first season as football fan and my first footballing heartbreak.

Didn’t they smash up the away dressing room, too? Horrible bastards.

Both mentioned. The West Ham game was the worst gut punch of them all. Watching any clips of that game feels like watching a car crash video or something. Makes me feel sick.

Close second was the Leeds play off game the year after. From feeling so confident to feeling like the whole world was caving in was a horrible feeling.

Only other one I can put up there was losing 3-4 at the Dingles after being 3-1 up with like 6 mins left. Nightmare fuel.

The home games under Westley take some beating in terms of low points in the modern era.

Being beaten by Shrewsbury at home, in the last minute, in February 2013 probably takes the biscuit.

Thankfully that was the last time the odious GW occupied the home dugout at Deepdale.

From a supports point of view I’d go for the Play-off final against Bolton, such a let down after beating Birmingham in the semi-final. From a performance point of view I think the 4-1 home defeat by Telford in the FA Cup takes some beating.

Not the worst by a mile but Brown Phil’s last game in charge . 0-0 vs Stevanage at home . Just dreadful.

And recently Wigan has to be in the top 50 worst games I’ve seen . I’ve seen a lot of horrific matches

I remember that home game under medals early on in his reign where we were 3-1 down against Brentford. It was that bad that when the fourth official put added time up the crowd boo'd. It was followed by the chants "I want to go home, I want to go home, this shit's depressing I want to go home" and "3-1 and we don't attack" as we just kept getting hit with waves of Brentford attacks.

Colchester. Last game of the season needing to win to go up automatically.
Horrendous game. Horrendous result. Horrendous drive back to Lancashire.
Cracking night out before though.

While I'd second the Leeds Semi final shouts, this one does need emphasising more. We brush it off because of the play offs, but at the time it was a truly miserable experience. Just felt like it was classic North End throwing it all away at the vital hurdle and one long trip back to have to think about it. Just felt like it was destiny for us to fail. Similar to the Leeds play off game it just felt like everything was collapsing in.

Playing Fulham in 1999. 4 hours down there on the coach, stood on the end terrace with no roof in the pissing down rain for the whole game and proceeded to get tonked 3-0. Then travelled back pretty much in silence. Grim
