January 2027 - Transfer Rumours and Discussions
Sorry didn’t know where to post this, but isn’t this a strange thing to post after he has been a free agent, since the summer when we released him. For the club to post anything about a ex PNE player joining a new club?

Are there any decent out of contract central defenders around.? After yesterday’s performance that needs addressed too. -and urgently -
I suspect those out of contact are either injured, just coming back from injury and nowhere near fit or actually a lot worse then the 3 stooges we already have hence why they are still out of contractAre there any decent out of contract central defenders around.? There’s a reason they’re still out of contract in the middle of SeptemberAre there any decent out of contract central defenders around.? After yesterday’s performance that needs addressed too. -and urgently -
I think the players we’ve brought in on permanent deals are probably an upgrade on other windows, but we’ve really had a bad window with regards to loan players. We can’t compare the likes of Dobbin, Devine, Jebbison and Armstrong with the loanees we’ve brought in this season. They are miles apart, but we’ve obviously needed to strengthen the defence which wasn’t addressed.
100%. Don’t mind a shift to strategy to get more permanents in but young premier league loanees are generally better quality footballers than we could ever afford; just look the way the Man City youngsters took apart Norwich the other night. We need a couple in, in Jan.I think the players we’ve brought in on permanent deals are probably an upgrade on other windows, but we’ve really had a bad window with regards to loan players. It looks rather like we have used the money we’d usually blow on loan players, to sign permanent players. That means any loans would be real cheapos. The club won’t have miraculously decided to double the budget, they’ll have just used it differently. We can’t afford to sign players and get 1st class loans on the lousy budget set. The people buying the club can’t just chuck a load in and the loans with options were to defer any payment to the new owners. It’s all a bit of a mess and it’s hard to see anything changing until the takeover has been all passed off.I think the players we’ve brought in on permanent deals are probably an upgrade on other windows, but we’ve really had a bad window with regards to loan players. An interesting read.
Says that 60% of the big 5 European Leagues use it.
Maybe something that we should be looking to use in the near future?

I've mentioned it before but my mate works for Football Manager, and clubs pay about £200k to use their data. And that's only one source. An interesting read.

I bet Prem clubs spend millions each year just on acquiring data, and that's before any scouting costs.
Some fans that have access to decent data and a video tool like Wyscout can honestly do a better job at identifying players than clubs who don't use it and employ dinosaur managers who dictate the transfer policy.
I'm pretty confident that the players we signed from other Championship clubs under Heckingbottom were his signings. 'Safe', chance of an immediate impact, but short term, and will never be sold for a profit.

I think most clubs will be using some form of data analytics, it’s probably got to a stage where those who are using it are losing out rather than those having it having a competitive advantage. But like some things the devil is in the detail, the models that clubs use to anylise the data will vary. Brighton and Brentford have models that were initially used by their owners for gambling analysis and adapted to identity players when they bought the clubs. They are light years in front of any other clubs and it’s difficult to see anyone closing the gap anytime soon. Liverpool spent a lot in there model and have had a decent amount of success but even they are nowhere near to what Brighton and Brentford have.An interesting read.
