Remember him well, was reserve keeper to Alan Kelly Sr so his first team opportunities were limited.
Often saw him playing in the central league, though. Those were the days when ressie games were played at 3pm on the saturdays when the firsts were playing away.
Decent keeper, in fairness.
RIP John.

Had it not been for Alan Kelly Sn being so good John Brown would have comfortably been our number 1. RIP John
Another very good keeperIs Gerry Stewart still around?
I remember Kells Snr. keeping him out, too.
Rest in Peace, John Brown.

John Brown did have a year or two as first choice keeper, from the time of Alan Kelly's enforced retirement, until Roy Tunks was signed from Rotherham. John then left to join Stockport, I think. I remember that if Tunks was injured, we had Alex Smith or Tom Clarke in reserve, they were both crap.
RIP John , wass the goalkeeper when I first started watching North End.😢
Alex Smith ex Accrington keeper, also played at Halifax Town.John Brown did have a year or two as first choice keeper, from the time of Alan Kelly's enforced retirement, until Roy Tunks was signed from Rotherham. Didn’t he play in the 1989 play off against port vale ? Or was that Alan Kelly
Barry Siddall rolled around in goal a bit for us when we lost 4-1 to Port Vale around that time. Start of the season though.Didn’t he play in the 1989 play off against port vale ? Or was that Alan Kelly
I can’t picture the keepers face . It could have been Kelly . All I remember is the fire in the town end . And some fat ovals fans wandering around
Fat vale fans 😂 ovals works though
Cheers duck.Fat vale fans 😂 ovals works though
The Central League in those days was very good useful to clubs who played in it. Most of the top teams in North West, Yorkshire and Midlands fielded a team. I used to go regularly, teams fielded players coming back from injury, top youth players and first team reserves, very strong teams competing. A central league match against Liverpool would be a good match to watch top players from Liverpool gaining fitness.Remember him well, was reserve keeper to Alan Kelly Sr so his first team opportunities were limited.

It would be useful today for North End if we played Man U, Liverpool, Everton reserves. Nowadays the reserve league is the Premier Reserve League, does include a few top academy teams Reading, Derby and a few others. I reckon we could make better use of today's Central League but the thing is we should invest in the academy and join the other clubs with good development infrastructure.
Long way to go before that happens, first and foremost would be to have owners with ambition and development plans, with the desire to move the club forward and compete in the top division, onwards and upwards.
RIP John Brown, I saw him play he was decent enough.
Barry Siddalls one game wonder for us, well more one game blunder as he ended the game with a serious back problem from retrieving the ball 5 times from the back of the net in a 5-2 defeat to Port Vale.Barry Siddall rolled around in goal a bit for us when we lost 4-1 to Port Vale around that time. Start of the season though.
