Good morning all,
John Garratt, my grandpa, was a director of Preston North End from 1982-1996 and club sponsor from 1986-90 with the family firm, ‘Garratts Insurance’.
In 1982, he was one of 20 local business people who each contributed £12,500 to raise the £250,000 needed to save the club from going into administration.
He became vice-chairman of the club before stepping down as a director at the start of the Baxi era in 1996.
On the 1st anniversary of his passing it would be really appreciated if a minute’s applause could take place in the 7th minute during the game v Coventry City this Saturday 19th October.
The number 7 representing his favourite player, Sir Tom Finney, who he had the privilege of watching throughout his career.
We very much hope that North End supporters will be happy to join in a minute’s applause in the 7th minute and enjoy the memory of the successful times under John McGrath and the ‘Garratts Insurance’ shirts.
John was a lifelong North End fan, attending his 1st game aged 5 in 1937 and was in the crowd for North End’s record attendance at Deepdale of 42,684 v Arsenal in April 1938.
Thank you all.
