Problem was he was punching the air at Elland Road at the final whistle towards Leeds fans behind the dugout and then gave Kevin Blackwell a very quick handshake so Leeds clearly used his behaviour as motivation in the team talk, wasn't there talk they printed out a big "JOB DONE" and stuck it on the wall in their dressing room at Deepdale. Hilarious they then lost the final to Watford and were in league one two seasons later.

One thing that has been misinterpreted a bit over the years was the second leg team selection. The full match is on YT. Didn't want to watch it back but did have a look at the start once I saw this thread pop up.

Sky commentator clearly says at the start "And Chris Sedgewick who was injured in the warm up....". So this wasn't Davies just messing around for the sake of it but more having to react to a key cog in the system pulling out last minute.

From the graphic on Sky pre match it was a bit like a modern day 4-2-3-1 with Dichio as the central striker, Nugent and Ormerod pulling out wide and then Stewart trying to find pockets of space as the number 10/support striker. Chris Kamara as the co-comms that night was saying that was going to cause Leeds all sorts of issues but what really put the plans out of sync was Brett then breaking his leg within five minutes so Whaley had to come on but he didn't make much impact.

I seem to recall he had also dropped a Midfielder ( the name escapes me, sorry😐 ! ) prior to the Chris Sedgwick thing , (in a move reminiscent of the 1964 Final when Davidson was club-suspended by Jimny Milne. ) Both were disciplinary suspensions.
A trawl on here to "way-back-when" might give us the name- I'm almost sure I'm not dreaming it up...

And then literally destroyed the Dressing Rooms in their final parting shot...

I don't know quite when they gave Blackwell the Order of the Boot, but it wasn't long after.

Ha haaaaa. ( Nelson Muntz )

Sedgwick didn’t play in the first leg either so doubt he would have started.
In the first leg against Leeds we went to a system we hadn’t played all season - 4-3-3. You could say it worked to some extent but It just seemed odd.

Correct me if I’m wrong but wasn’t Jarrett pretty shit?

He played a decent part in Wigan being automatically promoted the previous season but wasn't quite good enough for the prem and came as experienced player to replace Nowland in the run in.

I more remember him for one of those that fell out with Simmo early on and then seemingly was undermining him before he was sent out on loan to Norwich?

Never really played for Wigan in their promotion season. Norwich then signed him and he came to us originally on loan.

You was right though. He went to hull on loan after Simpson wanted rid. Was an ok player but never really kicked on. Brian stock was another one.

Stock was a real mystery one wasn't he? BD mentioned him for that Burnley goal when he flicked a free kick and Nuge volleyed it in. However he barely played after that despite being highly rated and coming from Bournemouth. The Tom Bayliss of the 2000s although he came back to the championship years later to play a couple of seasons for Burnley.
