ledger to boro

I can't believe he's been practically forced out like this, wonder what Irvine thinks of it.

I find it completely embarassing and I've fallen out with the game a bit this season, but this would be the last straw for me at the minute. Losing our most influential and talented player to a play-off rival, at a critical stage of the season where we've had a great start would be complete suicide.

Derek goes on about how we have to balance the books, put it this way Derek - its entertainment, and there's no entertainment without your best act there. If we are on a hiding to nothing (which we could well be if SSL goes) then the footfall on the gate is going to decrease. No-one is going to pay £20+ to watch utter shite, especially if it (and it could) be in League One in the coming seasons.

You've got to stay strong Derek, at this moment in time - its anyone BUT St Ledger. A player who is about to play in a World Cup come next July most probably.

I just hope that Sean does the right decision, for him - not for anyone else but for him. But if he goes then the club will lose more than just a player.

Very good post James, and exactly how I feel about this impending disaster. 🙁

There is some serious crap posted on here tonight, when the club made SSL its highest ever paid player there was no doubt a clause in his contract that would allow him to speak to another team given that their offer met with the sum agreed in his contract.

It is then up to SSL to do what he wants to do, stay or go, nothing the club can do about it then, as always his agent will have a say in all of this, but I just don't see how it is a lack of ambition on the clubs part???

We bought him for diddly squat, a gobby oik who was very raw, he has blossomed under Irvine and now one way or the other PNE will benefit. I am sure Irvine does not want to sell SSL and this in itself may cause some friction between the manager and board, but when has the PNE board not upset a manager!!!!!!!

He has a contract with PNE ( AS LOOSE AT THAT MAY BE) - we dont have to sell him to our rivals - thats the big issue with me tbh

Heres an idea, lets send em a ringer , change SSL name by deed pole to something foreign, teach him hungarian and keep the cash and the player.

Why is it crap Bill? The rumours of him going to Middlesbrough are gathering pace - if PNE make it clear that they want him to stay then he will, at least until the end of the season.

We've got a serious chance of being promoted this season, but you don't achieve that by selling your best player - it would send a negative vibe throughout the club.

The fans need to make their feelings known on this issue because it might affect how the club act.

That's the way I see it anyway - if you disagree fair fucks and you know I respect your opinion, but I feel it would have a negative effect if we let him leave now.

little bit OTT there.

I was thinking the one to the right.

NO ONE SLAGGING THE SAINT OFF NOW ARE THEY? ( Cue slagging off)
Weve always sold for big money so hey ho whats the problem? Don't forget Ledge doesn't have to go and that he will have insisted on the clause to leave.

Danny, SSL is the last player I want to leave Deepdale, he shows a great passion for PNE and an appreciation for those that go to the games, he alwas comes over to the fans home and away and thanks them/us for our support.

If his contract carries a clasue allowing him and his agent to speak to another club if a certain sum is offered, PNE can do nothing about it, SSL would have the last say in where he plays. I think the club have shown huge ambition in the salary he is paid (the highest ever at PNE) a fee that would make less serious clubs shy away and helped him to develop as a footballer, every credit to Irvine for this.

I`ve missed something somewhere....ARE the club forcing SSL out?

Not arguing, just after some facts. This is important.

A clause ... to what move to a team in the same division as ourselves. The likelihood of such a clause is 0, perhaps if a Premiership team came in yes.

I believe that such clauses in the past have included the element that the team must be in the premier league, not rivals in the championship. I don't think the McKenna transfer had any contract clause element.

How nailed on true is this? Just logged on after being out all weekend and lots of normally reliable folk are talking like it's a done deal.

I can understand selling him at the end of the season or even in Jan for a massive, massive fee. A loan deal now really, really sticks in the throat however. In fact it seems an utter declaration from the club's senior management that they have no ambition or even belief in going up.

SSL is a very good player, but the Board are responsible to the share holders and have to do their best for them first.

If we are in debt, then that means selling players.

If we need money to fund the purchase or loan of other players, such as midfielders, then that means selling players.

We have got Collins in. This can only be to let someone out as we aren't short of cover in central defence. If it is the case that SSL is going everyone must have known it for some time at the club.

My personal opinion will not be based upon whether SSL leaves, but what the club do overall. I'd rather him out with Collins and a good midfielder in, than SSL stay (assuming that Collins is half decent). Without another central midfielder we won't see the Premiership this season. With a good one in, who knows.
