I think it will all depend on market forces. Historically, excellent/good goalkeepers have always commanded more of a fee due to their relative scarcity plus buying clubs have usually been prepared to 'pay that bit more' to get their man as goalkeeping is a single and unique position on the field.
At times, when a lot of clubs have been in the market for a 'keeper and there was not too many available, clubs have paid well over the odds for an average 'keeper.
Who knows? maybe there are not too many 'keepers available right now and there are a lot of clubs looking for one so we might just get an over inflated price for Lonners - then again, we would also have to pay an over inflated price for his replacement.
This love him/hate him debate seems to be raging.
Quote of the week:
Interviewer: Describe Lonnergan's ability in one word.
Expert: Good.
Interviewer: Now describe his ability in two words.
Expert: Not good
Do you not get bored after a bit Shaky? You have your opinions and others have theirs. It doesn't matter what you put or what others put neither yours nor their opinion of Lonergan is going to change. 240 posts in a thread that is going round in circles.
You think he's shit, we get it.
I'd like to get some people putting money on him playing in the prem, any takers? No, because people know I'm right, but can't give up their rose tinted glasses.
Hows the journalism career going, resigned to stacking shelves yet? 🙂
if this is the case, why is 10m the british record for a keeper, and 25m+ for defenders, midfielders and strikers?I think it will all depend on market forces. i apologise, by referencing goalkeeper being a unique position to support your argument, i just assumed that you were somehow inherently comparing them to outfield players.I was talking relative to goalkeepers only. Goalkeepers have always commanded much lower fees compared to outfield players.
I was talking relative to goalkeepers only.
Soooooo, excellent/good goalkeepers command more of a fee than shit goalkeepers is what you're saying then?
Fucking Jesus. 😱

Oh. DP7 at it again. You know full well that my point was that some times (when market forces dictate) higher fees are paid for average or even poor 'keepers.
Fair enough.
Have you any examples?
£9m for Craig Gordon is as good a place to start as any.
