Absolutely bang on the mark. A season or so I would have said losing St Ledger would be a disaster. Now everybody has a price and if a bid was lodged for them then I would sell.
I would rather still see a Preston North End than risk going bust for the sake of keeping players we cannot afford.
As you say Mr Softy Top everybody bar Coutts can leave as far as I am concerned. It's turning out to be a very interesting summer and hopefully Darren can bring in the players he wants to make us the hungry, determined squad capable of challenging at the top of the league.
The longevity of the club is more important than worshipping a favourite player. If TH wants his money back now, then sell it off to someone else, then so be it, but we have to sort the club out.
Lindsay will not have been brought in to take us backwards, simple as. He's an incredibly experienced head and along with TH, they will get us back operating on an even keel. It might be hard seeing our so called 'big name' players leave the club, but I don't mind if we sell them. Yes, I'd have liked Wallace to go somewhere other than Burnley, but we got £1m for him and he was on £11k a week, we could not afford to turn it down.
If it's true that we've got £500k for Collins, then we might just have a bit for Fergie to spend on getting in young hungry players like Coutts, James and Treacy and experienced heads like Brown, who will come in on less wages than what we were paying the likes of Nolan and Collins (£8k a week each allegedly).
Players come and go, that's football. Lonergan and SSL are good players, but are their hearts really in it? I'm not accusing them of not caring about the club, but I feel their heads may have been turned by more illustrious interest, especially in St. Ledger's case. I wouldn't be distraught if they left, because if we get £2.5m for SSL and say £1.5m for Lonners, that's £4m in for two players that may not be that hard to replace.
It's time people got a sense of realism. Just because TH is running the show now, doesn't mean we are gonna be splashing out £2m+ on players - the man said it himself, it's a rescue package. Short term, might hurt slightly, but in the long term, we'll be in a much better state.
