Match Day Thread - Brentford v Preston North End 18/04/14 (Gentry Day)

Does anyone know if Garner or anyone else mention on the commentary today on whether Joe will be ready to play on Monday?

He said he was training tomorrow and may play Monday but if not next Saturday.

He sounded cheesed off at the start of the game having travelled down. Basically I think he was ready to play but they didn't want to risk him. Which is sensible but showed that we weren't too bothered about today.

There's no rush now, wrap any knocks in cotton wool and make sure we're all fit for the semis - and that includes getting match fit for those who haven't played much lately, especially Stuckmann.

On train home. Game utter shit but beers bloody good. Fans absolutely fucked them over. Kept it going all through game, all through half time and for 20 mins afterwards

Apparently Simon Grayson was very angry from our performance commenting that a lot of our players didn't turn up today & insists that as to improve going into the play offs.

Keith I have posted earlier and I cannot be bothered looking it up, but I believe our set up from the off was to try to limit Brentfords chance's, we did not set up to have a go and attack ! Just my opinion, but how we played was how the manager set the team up, this is SG's way, frustrate the opposition and pinch a goal. Today it did not work, we are in the play off's I have supported SG, but feel he must hold his hands up and burden some of the responsibilty for a performance like todays.

Ok thanks.

Adam Cottier from Radio Lancs has just posted this tweet on his Twitter page.

Mark Warburton just told me he backs Preston to win playoffs. Says he expected more from his team's opposition today

Strange that he would back us after rolling over at Deepdale, and showing virtually nothing today. He must have seen some of our other more appealing performances.

Another cracking PNE away day when the fans sang for pretty much the whole 90 minutes, through half time and for 20 mins afterwards, of which as PNE fans we should be proud. But the performance on the pitch was turgid, not a single shot on target and no bite up front at all.

Poor performance today by the lads hopefully that will be out of our system for the next few matches and the more importantly the playoff games, as I don't think I can handle a other season in this league with tinpot teams and worse referees.

On the plus side the lashers are in real trouble now🙂

I agree with you.

As good as SG has done for us I do not think the over cautious ultra defensive strategy he too often uses, stifle the opposition with a team packed with tough, strong tacklers and then put our better players on for the later stages of the game to try and nick a goal is the best or most successful one.

It may have worked occasionally but all too often backfires disastrously.

I thought managers preferred to take the early initiative in games, get on front foot and let the opposition worry about their own team rather than sit back, invite pressure and give the opposition the initiative and confidence. That way seems crazy to me.

Really hope lessons are learnt from this in time for the play offs.

The team goes from scoring 6 last week with an attacking line up and strategy to having just 2 shots on target all match today.

Still, we've improved massively overall this season and can't complain can we.

What I can't understand is why a referee who lives a few miles North of London is allowed to take charge of an important game at the top of the Division, when one team is based a few miles away.

I listened to this on the radio, and it sounded like he was a right homer.

Surely ref should have come from the Midlands for a game like this?

He really was. I know it shouldn't detract from a piss poor PNE performance, but he was a complete and utter knob who got every basic decision wrong (sorry for the language but it was needed to describe his performance!)
