Matchday Thread - Middlesboro v PNE (22/1/11)

I've not cheered so hard listening to a game on the Radio in a long time. That goal has kept our season alive. We need these additions in quick though, next Saturday is the biggest game we've had in a while. We need to win. Plus, my accumulator came up trumps as well. Happy days.

I made a right tit of myself listening on my own to the radio in the pub while the rest of them were watching BBC for the Everton/United scores.

Assume that was in Chorley? Very sad (not the fact that you were listening to PNE, but the fact that there are so many plastic Mancs and Scousers around here-I'd have more respect for them, coming from Chorley, if they supported Bolton).

My dog nearly sh#t on the livingroom floor I shouted and cheered that loud when we scored ! 😀

An OK point, but better for Boro than PNE.

Henry's cat, how do you come to that conclusion, 'Boro were the home team and on a decent short run, since their last league defeat they have beat us at our olace 3-1, drew away v Leeds 1-1, drew at home v Norwich 1-1 and beat Bristol City away 4-0? I think that this and last weeks results have been very good for us and give PB a platform to build on. If we can beat Scunny next Saturday then I think it will not be long before we are out of the bottom 3.

there's just as many plastic mancs and scousers in preston as there is in chorley so stop talking shit

Well, at least we now have genuine determination. Late goals today and last week show that. But, we're going to need it by the bucket load because talent wise, we are awful. Just got back, we were massively outclassed again but grabbed something and I guess that's all that counts.
Desperately need players in though, midfield was completely out of its depth and 4 or 5 players in our team are some way off even being championship standard players. What's happened to Coutts?
Still, I return home happy with a point and lookimg forward to next weekend at Scunny. UTW.

Just got back. In all honesty we weren't great at all. Constantly being overrun in midfield despite having 3 in there, and Boro taking advantage of us having only the one player on the wings, rather than two. However, we did defend well and hung in there to grab a point, in a game I'm convinced we would have lost a few weeks back.

Massive relief to get the point, massive, massive game away at Scunthorpe next week. Onwards and upwards!

In all fairness, with the resources we have in midfield, we did bloody well to escape with a point today. In fact, central midfield has been Preston's problem for the past half century bar the Gregan/Rankine partnership.

If Brown Phil can fortify that area during the next week, a win at Scunthorpe is not out of the question - but if we stick with what we've got, we're well and truly down.

Agree with Crownjewels I went and we were constantly over powered in the middle.
We also showed nothing up front but have ground out a vital point.
What a contrast when the ball went under Lonners for me the season ended there and then but when Billy put that header in we went nuts and the belief returned.
We can do it people but need strengthening quickly.

Every crdit to Phil Brown and the lads today as we showed tremendous spirt to grind out our second sucsesive draw.

Under ferguson we would not have got these two valuable points; goals in the 88th and 91st minute respectivly in the last two gams show the fighting spirt the manger as installed in the lads.

As for the game you just felt Boro were going to score as they had got hold of the game and we were struggling to get out of our own half and only a blinding save from lonners stopped us going two nil behind.

Middlesbrough are in a false postions as far as im concerned so again it was a good point for us agaisnt a good side. But we don't have a real threat up front anymore and that beggers the sale of Parkin even more for me. 100,000 pounds we might as well have kept him and let him walk away for nothing. Phil Brown would have focused big Jon and his contribution could have made all the difference in us winning games instaed of drawaing them but thats gone now but it still pisses me off a bit like is giving Nolan away for 25,000 what a difference these players could make working with Phil Brown.

Loved it today and the fans were fanstastic as was the effort put in by the players.

although i was a big fan of jon parkin i just don't think he was consistant enough. at the moment we need 100%consistency and that justifys selling him PROVIDING we bring in a goalscorer, which i think we will.

Correct and the quoted figure of £100,000 has been stated as incorrect several times. You might argue the alternative figure of £250,000 isn't enough either but combine that with a very large amount in wages, Parkin was simply a player we couldn't afford to carry - especially when he hadn't produced the goods for some time.

Stop going on about Parkin being sold for £100,000. That's just Cardiff's spin. £100k was merely the initial upfront minimum payment whic rises to as much as £300k based on appearances, promotion etc.
