Never again....

Never again....

We needed a few things to happen to be up there with Luton Town really. We needed Riis to not get injured, we needed Cannon to be signed in the summer not January and we needed a player that could make something out of nothing like McGeady could for example.

Ryan Lowe has identified that we need these players it appears from his comments, whether he will get them or not is another matter.

the useless fucker has saddled us with the turgid Woodburn for another season

Fair play to both Luton and Coventry who have achieved a lot on limited resources similar to ours.
What is this down to? The Managers or the recruitment/ general backroom set up?

Luton Town
Nathan Jones (twice) & Rob Edwards , are they the reason for the success

Coventry City
Mark Robins , is he the reason for success?

PNE
Alex Neil, Frankie McEvoy*, Ryan Lowe , are they the reasons for our lack of success?

Or is it the backroom staff / recruitment staff/ general setup around the club?

* Frankie McEvoy didn't really have long enough in the hot seat and was also classed as a Head Coach rather than manager.

IMO, we are still feeling a bit of fallout from the last days of AN, there was obviously a lack of harmony somewhere, with the refusal to play Gordon, the offloading of Dolan and other bizarre happenings around that time (not got a scooby doo who the best team is etc) .
Frankie was a makeweight.
Ryan Lowe has his critics but overall has done a decent job this season, made his mistakes sure but he's a young manager finding his way and TBF he seems to have generally learned from his mistakes. Another thing to his credit is that he isn't constantly whinging about having no money to spend, he accepts his budget and gets on with it.

Big season for RL coming up, the end results will show if he's Championship/Prem standard , I would like him to prove that he is.
It's been said before but it needs saying again. It doesn't matter who the manager is, a club is only as good as the people at the top.

It's interesting to compare with Luton and Coventry and see how we could improve.

However, that's quite a recency bias. It's also fair to say we've performed as well or better than clubs with massively more resources than us this season (e.g. Watford and Stoke).

I'm note at all saying that shouldn't aspire to learn from the best, just that we aren't that bad either.
We’ve been like this for over sixty years though…looking up a similar sized clubs (or smaller) who have outperformed us on and off the pitch but also looking down and saying well all that money and they’re still lower than us.
Without doubt we are the longest suffering fans in the EFL….when the feck will it be our turn.
