New forum features - introducing 2 way ignore.

New forum features - introducing 2 way ignore.

Did someone say something?!?

I'm sick if having to log out of the forum just to read some of the threads properly, purely because a certain person's posts constantly needed fact checking and he didn't like it.

Is said person not someone who’s advocated for alternative viewpoints and free speech?

And has he subsequently missed the irony?

Very vocal about cancel culture and media shutting down people's opinions...

And how Youtube has banned people (when they hadn't) or how mainstream media wasn't reporting things (because they were entirely fictional)

Or sets up entirely new threads on the same topic because he can't handle real discussion...

No, no idea who you mean...

If you have a browser that allows "private browsing" (e.g. Firefox, Edge or Chrome [which calls it "incognito"]), you don't need to log out - you can open a new private/incognito window and "paste & go" the URL from the forum into it, while staying logged-into the forum in the original non-private window.

It's ridiculous that forum users have to jump through these hoops thanks to this broken feature and the actions of other users outside their control, but it's at least a bit more convenient than logging in and out all the time.

Why put someone on ignore ?
Won’t they just eventually end up on the naughty step
You'll have to ask the people putting us on ignore m'lud.

The problem we're discussing is how our forum experience gets automatically broken when other people decide, out of the blue, to stick us on (2-way) ignore.

I haven’t got a clue - probably a first world problem my friend
And I haven’t got a clue if anyone would have the audacity to put someone like myself on ignore or even how to check
Basically I haven’t got a clue 🤷‍♂️

As I've said a few times I appreciate a small number of posters have an issue with this function.

It's on a one year licence and then it will be reviewed, replaced with better software (if its available) or even scrapped.

I understand why people might want to ignore someone, but the issue I have is why somebody would choose to say things and keep them hidden.

The person hiding their posts from me, for example, is someone who invented a load of false quotes last year and attributed them to me then criticised me about them while talking to other users!

At least back then, I could see the posts, point out they were lies and request he used the quote function in future. Now, he and other forum members, could potentially slander their forum "enemies" to everyone while remaining hidden and not giving them the right of reply.

I don't think that's very fair.

Yeah, someone’s got me on ignore! I was wondering why some threads seemed not to make sense until
I read this one! Seems the sensitive soul that is Henry’s Cat has got upset at being told to stop his constant whinging on the match day threads and has me on iggy! Soft sod! Mind you he won’t see this!😂🤣

Maybe ask the people who have used it (if they haven't blocked you too)
ha loads have blocked me, but it ruins the thread, im anti blocking anyone but if someone wants to block me so be it but that blocking makes the forum a worse place; does two-way block work on mods? i dont think so does it?

That's precisely the thing. The forum is great because there's no algorithm selecting what you want to see or hear so you get the full spectrum of opinion, and have your own ideas challenged/corrected which is healthy!

2-way blocking evidently hasn't worked, as entire sections of the forum have needed to be closed down recently and bans issued.

i agree

i see it from the mods perspective also that when it heats up saturday night after a sunny afternoon and a few bevvies and there's war in the politics section then this is spoiling a mods weekend; but i dont think mods experience the function and evaluating the effectiveness of the function based on complains is also a false approach as by its very nature impact is hidden so it can be not obvious to some people
