Oh dear maurice!

Oh dear maurice!

I think that's the understatement of the year.

Haven't you got enough to worry about? I understand your new stand is finally ready after all the cock ups, but that visibility is limited in certain areas...well done Karl (bankruptcy order pending, but he'll be ok when he sells land to the club for the training ground for a couple of million..allegedly). Apparently Belikon should have paid the promotion bonuses but didn't come up with the dosh (I have this on good authority), hence the delay in payment. Just remind me, who IS your Chairman at present?

Seems that way. But how? Hickson is basically a DJ. Lindsay has been involved in professional sport for years, was instrumental in setting up Super League, managed the England (GB?) RL Team. How can he not be media savvy??

Live interviews are Hickson stock-in-trade. There's a big difference between media savvy and business savvy. Lindsay is streets ahead in the latter.

Trouble is, Lindsay's ego makes him think..... he's better at both.

I couldn't give a f*ck about the lashers having a laugh at it, they've given us plenty of laugh's over the years. ML said what he wanted to say and Hickson wanted to drag it out and ML didn't. What do fans want, he explained it, it was to late to change for the Portsmouth game and if the restructure was announced before the game, Fans would of demanded action in time for that game, spending money the club can ill afford to spend. ML did right tonight and I for one glad Hickson was finally stuck for words. What u also need to remember is that would of been edited and Hickson would of edited it to his own agenda. Alot of u have call Hickson fit to burn over the years and that includes Surf. Just be glad we got reduce prices and those that refused to go on the £30 games, now don't have to choose.

Just listened to the interview, it's at about 20:39 mins on:

Must say that Hickson seemed to be up for a confrontation from the off and unfortunately, ML fell for it and got dragged into an embarrassing situation, which, given his experience, is puzzling. Not sure why Hickson adopted this attitude, never heard him challenge anyone like that before. In fact, how many times have we heard him belittle fans who dare to question the policies of their club? Very strange indeed. More to this than meets the eye.

Hickson wasn't stuck for words. He was merely using silence to his advantage.

Doubt it...it was live as far as I could tell.

Thing is if ML had answered the questions then there would have been no confrontation or long silences. ML made a complete balls up of the interview as far as I could tell.

Got to disagree with you there. Over recent years (Beck onwards) PNE have had more than most when it came down to coverage. During Peters reign, North End had loads of coverage and it continued through different managers because we were successful or looking like we were going to be successful. Burnley & Blackpool had less coverage during this period until recently.

Hickson might be a dick but his show has given North End over the years more coverage than most teams in the area. I remember Burnley & Blackpool fans saying that Radio Lancs was really Radio North End

I actually agree with you there, there are at the very least as pro North End on that programme as they are pro lasher, dingle or plastic (I actually think Rovers get the raw deal in that respect). I hope ML's hissy fit doesn't change that.

Having now listened to it I agree with you tbh. Hickson was simply asking a question and ML bizzarely reacted with anger. He was on the radio to answer Hickson's questions about the price changes! Also, its a slight insult to the fans to suggest the change of plan with the prices had nothing to do with our worst home league gate in ten years less than a week ago. We were not born yesterday.

Here is exactly what happened as the bulk of you lot must have either cottonwool stuffed in your ears, or you are simply out on some sort of vendetta against Maurice Lindsay.

ML explained clearly that the reason for the re-think had absolutley nothing to do with the crowd level v Portsmouth and that the decision to re-evaluate the pricing structure was already in process, and that it was too late for him to do anything without causing a lot of problems before the Portsmouth game.

Hickson then, as journalists tend to to, totally ignored ML's reasoned response to the status of the pricing structure, and went on about fans linking the decision to re-evaluate the pricing structure because of what had happened v Portsmouth.

Now maybe ML has a short fuse, but if I explain to someone in my every day life why I have done something, and they immediately start to challenge my reasoning, to me, that is tantermount to calling me a liar.

Had I been ML, I would have adopted exactly the attitude he did, and it is about time that so called radio journalists once having been provided an answer to a question and then continuing to challenge the answer were put in their place, and that is exactly what happened.

Obviously Lindsay does not suffer fools, and good on him for that, and if he goes about his everyday business at Deepdale with the same no nonsense attitude, he will do for me.

Any of you who think Hickson came out of that interview in a better light than the PNE chairman must have some sort of negative mentality against anything that our football club does. If I were TH I would say to ML, well done, you didn't let that smarmy radio journalist get away with trying to fabricate a story where one didn't exist in the first place.

Are you lot that thick that you can't see that Hickson was out to embarrass:

a) our chairman,

b) our club,..............and because of a) and b),

c) our fans?

Hickson didn't even have the courtesy of giving ML his full title at the end of the interview, referring to him as the Preston chairman..............ML is the chairman of Preston North End FC, he is not the chairman of the city of Preston, to me, that was a final verbal swipe at someone who had just stood his ground against an obvious aggressive interviewer.

Well done Maurice, and it's about time the rest of you lot grew some balls and started to realise that we now have no nonsense people in charge at Deepdale. Most of you lot over the years have criticised DS for sounding like a wimp on the radio, now we have someone with a bit of backbone, you still complain.

Had Maurice Lindsay been weak, and agreed to engage in the conversation according to Hickson's liking, and even acknowledged that the Portsmouth game had a bearing on the decision to re-structure the pricing, some of you would have been on here saying what a wimp character we now have as a chairman.

What a bunch of hypocrites some of you are. Either that or you can't recognise a strong character when you see or hear one. To me, he sounds the perfect type to take over the job at PNE.

And some of you lot should be ashamed of yourselves.

Just listened. He doesn't come across particularly well, but Hickson is a cunt. A smarmy one too.

Old Mo doesn't do himself any favours and sounds like he was on his period. A right whiney old sod.

I find this a really odd interpretation. You're making out Maurice is some Clough-esque verbal war horse who won't suffer fools when in actual fact he sounds like a paniced school boy scared of being "bullied" (when he clearly isn't being).

I'm really, really not ashamed of myself (again, another bizarre comment) but I think Maurice may be after that. He sounds like the type of man who carries a handbag and isn't afraid to use it.

Great post, Albertan (rarity 😉 )

Heaven forbid what Shaw would have said. Lindsay is leading us on the right path, leave him to it. Hickson is a lasher twat with a radio show, I'm glad Lindsay didn't back down.

Great post Albertan, one of the funniest post I have ever read on here but the bit above is absolute genius.

I trust none of your post was serious.

That's the main point, and you're spot on (for once!). Lindsay clearly doesn't suffer fools and decided to lay the boundaries early on with Hickson by adopting the unhelpful attitude.

It's laid a clear marker to Hickson, who now knows that if he does that kind of thing again, he'll get the same lack of cooperation again.

After challenging Maurice, then being asked to explain himself Hickson even finished his excuse with the telling words 'which you have already explained' or something along those lines. That's the whole point, he's been given an answer but then basically accused ML of being a liar.

I thought ML came across well in that first bit, but less well when asked about the new structure. But to be fair, Hickson didn't say 'tell us about the new structure' he said something akin to 'so what are the new prices?' a question he should clearly have known the answer to before commencing the interview.

ML explained the reason for the change, then Hickson ignored every word said and referred to the explanation as 'insulting to intelligent people'. That's what got ML's back up, Hickson implying that he was treating people as if they were thick.

Hickson spoke about fans making the link between the Portsmouth gate and the change and the texts an emails received to that effect "...you can understand the link, can't you"

ML "Don't know what you mean about the link, only you clever journalists understand words like that"

Hickson: "no, no. I think that's a bit disrespectful to clever people who have already sent texts and emails in as well, Maurice"

ie:

Hickson was presenting to ML the views of fans as received by the programme, ML went on the attack and Hickson defended the fans who had put the views against the sarcasm of ML.

An astonishing foot in the mouth moment for ML!

I rest my case. ML showed his true colours in public, usually only behind closed doors and people's backs.
Classic "small man syndrome" but with a massive ego that won't let anyone disagree or even question him even on stuff he knows nothing about.
