25pts after 15 games last season would have seen us just 2pts behind 1st place.

Burnley and Sheff Utd had 26pts and 25pts respectively after 15 games.

Just puts into perspective that we really are doing well this season.

The recent poor run was tough to take after such an incredible start, but just perhaps we should cut the manager (and players) some slack and give them more credit than criticism.

We are 6th, just 3pts behind Leeds in 3rd, in what is a fiercely competitive league this season. It's a remarkable achievement so far.

Considering the size of our budget and depth/quality of our squad, we ARE over achieving (like it or not) and we should be proud.

We all want more, and that's a good thing, but let's also be grateful for what we've got.

Lets keep it going! Up the whites!!

Yes we are over achieving. But after a terrific start it was something to build on but this was spoilt because some of the performances were awful. The fans demanded an attacking performance today and RL gave them what they wanted. Now he needs to keep the momentum going and not revert back to the crap he has served up in the past.

And I don’t think we need a great deal in January to maintain the position we are in. A left sided centre half, a left back/wing back and then some luck with injuries and Lowe to stop worrying so much about the opposition

Lowe needs to find a way of beating the better sides, to have any hope of achieving something.

Our recent shit run proved that the way is not to sit deep and try to counter. We simply cannot defend well enough to do that for 90 minutes without conceding.

We need to be braver and back ourselves against the top teams.

We let in goals like water. We are going nowhere with Ryan Lowe in charge of our defence. Do we really need to go behind in every game ?
I don’t rate Lowe, but I have to concede he isn’t being helped by the pretty average quality of our defenders.

Saying that, even more reason to try and score some fecking goals when you know you can’t keep a clean sheet.

Going nowhere, yet we're 3pts off 3rd with 6 more points than we had after 15 games last season.

There's no pleasing some folk.

I agree with you that it’s great to be in 6th place with so many points.

For me the big pluses at PNE at the moment are :

The Board have made a substantial investment in the squad this summer (showing massive commitment);
We’ve signed some really exciting talented attacking players;
This seems to have increased fans’ optimism with impressive +16k average home attendances and 1,600 average away support;
We’ve seen some exciting attacking football (but only very, very occasionally);
Despite Lowe’s limitations we’ve still managed to remain in a good League position.
With good coaching and management we have the players capable of securing a Play Off place.

My concerns:

RL has clear and major flaws -
He seems to lack the ability to utilise the undoubted talent at his disposal;
He seems to know only one method which is to overload the team with defensive players and play on the back foot;
He seems to be a very poor motivator eg blaming his players for his own mistakes;
He doesn’t seem to learn from his mistakes;
He constantly spouts utter bullshit;
He seems settled to aim for a mid-table finish.

Our great start was despite some quite poor performances and was down to a lot of luck;
We’re 19th in the current form table with just 1 win in 8 (6 points from 24).

Let’s all hope that the investment made in the squad this summer isn’t wasted, that we get the very best out of players like Millar, Osmajic, Mads, Keane, Holmes and all of our other talent, and have a real go at making the Play Offs.

Considering our manager is so flawed (in your opinion), he's doing rather well.

Maybe Lowe had to go a bit negative to try and get confidence back after some of the games like Leicester, West Brom and Southampton, they suck the confidence out of a squad with tough to take results.

Just a thought.

It's pathetic, there's a serious dislike for our manager and nothing but a 20 game unbeaten run will change that, it's always the same.

Yeah it's ridiculous.

I could've scripted the response this thread would receive from certain folk.

Compare Lowe's budget and squad with other teams around us in the most competitive Championship for many a season. He's still got us in 6th with more points than we had at this stage last season.

Some acknowledge that we've done very well and that we're over achieving, but still constantly criticise the manager and point out all his flaws.

Of course Lowe has flaws. He's still learning and will be learning for the rest of his career.

He's not the messiah (who is that would come near Preston?). I said last week I would give him until Christmas if things didn’t improve. But on reflection, that's harsh. He makes mistakes, but is learning. He's doing very well all things considered.

But I can see it's futile trying to reason with closed minds.

Let’s be honest many fans predicted trouble this season with the ‘strongest’ championship in years.

Could another manager do better? Probably.
Does that mean Lowe is doing a bad job? Absolutely not! And at the moment does not deserve to be sacked.

Someone was saying the other day that our home form was just a carry on from last season. Wel we’ve scored in every home game bar one and have won 5 drawn 1 and lost one so clearly they were talking bollocks.

Our away from is a cause for concern but in that run have had to play the top two. Have a good chance next week versus Blackburn though.

What makes you think he’s “learning”?
Seriously, what have you seen that lots of us haven’t?

If I thought he was learning and saw some evidence of that and an improvement in his performance he’d have my full support. Instead he just seems to moronically repeat the same errors (team selections, tactics, substitutions) expecting some miracle and spouts the same cliches.

I’m still actually willing him to succeed (why wouldn’t any of us?).

Let’s see over the next few matches if he is doing as you say he is ie learning. So, will he play to our strengths by playing on the front foot or will he keep relying upon our defence to try and desperately hold on under the intense and sustained pressure throughout matches that we usually see?

I’m open-minded enough to hope for him to learn, improve and succeed here but I’m also realistic enough to consider that he might just not actually be up to the task.

He’s learning because he is willing to adapt. When you say ‘improvement in his performance’ what do you expect? People act like we are in a relegation battle. People predicted we would be. So if as you say you want an improvement. Then surely being sixth a third of the way through the season is an improvement? Or do you expect us to be top.

People wanted us to improve at home. Well we have surely got that with five wins so far. Only two more wins before we match last years total. We are also scoring a lot more at home than last season although that isn’t saying much.

I’ve seen this with Grayson, Neil and now Lowe. Fans want change for changes sake without actually realising that the manager isn’t that bad. Could another manager do better? Possible and if Lowe left it wouldn’t bother me. But am I going to call for his head with the position we are in. No because I’m not a fool.

Also when you say ‘lots of us’ you are talking about the usual negative lot who come on here in their dozens every time we lose. I don’t think they are worth listening to to be fair.
