What makes you think he’s “learning”?
Seriously, what have you seen that lots of us haven’t?

If I thought he was learning and saw some evidence of that and an improvement in his performance he’d have my full support. Instead he just seems to moronically repeat the same errors (team selections, tactics, substitutions) expecting some miracle and spouts the same cliches.

I’m still actually willing him to succeed (why wouldn’t any of us?).

Let’s see over the next few matches if he is doing as you say he is ie learning. So, will he play to our strengths by playing on the front foot or will he keep relying upon our defence to try and desperately hold on under the intense and sustained pressure throughout matches that we usually see?

I’m open-minded enough to hope for him to learn, improve and succeed here but I’m also realistic enough to consider that he might just not actually be up to the task.

I know the reason the Lots and You haven't seen

25pts after 15 games last season would have seen us just 2pts behind 1st place.

Burnley and Sheff Utd had 26pts and 25pts respectively after 15 games.

Just puts into perspective that we really are doing well this season.

The recent poor run was tough to take after such an incredible start, but just perhaps we should cut the manager (and players) some slack and give them more credit than criticism.

We are 6th, just 3pts behind Leeds in 3rd, in what is a fiercely competitive league this season. It's a remarkable achievement so far.

Considering the size of our budget and depth/quality of our squad, we ARE over achieving (like it or not) and we should be proud.

We all want more, and that's a good thing, but let's also be grateful for what we've got.

Lets keep it going! Up the whites!!

No problem whatsoever if he keeps picking teams like yesterday..... And in tandem with your request I'll remain utterly positive and not mention the substitutions. cough cough 😉

Seriously , good win. 👍

At least we are consistent 🤣
On a serious note though we do make it difficult for ourselves but credit to the team that we have the character to get back into games.
It would be interesting to see the stats.
Can't be many sides that concede the first goal more than we do or indeed get something from the game.

Just had a look and we are top with 12.

We are also pretty good when taking the lead. When we are in the lead we have won 7 of 9.

Just watched their goals at 0.25 speed …First Goal ..huge foul by Wright on Storey pushes him over which causes Storey to half clear . The shot comes back in and Wright is well off side absolutely no doubt about it.
Second goal . Shot comes in and Wright is almost but not quite level with Millar, his right arm is off side( crazy, I know ) with VAR that’s disallowed ..
And Robbins has n the post match interview had the cheek to say the build up in our 2nd goal was offside. What a twerp

Lowe definitely has flaws which many people have highlighted. But I do think it's worth acknowledging that our run of games without a win came as part of a tough run of fixtures for us. Most of the results didn't surprise me.

On the losses:
- We haven't had a great record against West Brom in recent years. Since 2018, we've had 2 wins, 1 draw, and 6 losses. If you were to ask me whether I'd be surprised we'd lose at home to them, I would've said no.
- Leicester and Ipswich are two difficult teams to play. They're even more difficult play consecutively within three days and both away from home.
- Hull was the most disappointing for me but it felt, in part, a consequence of our winless run. It felt like the run was getting to the players.

I'm not happy with the results and we should've done better. I just think that it wasn't unusual to see us get the results we did and that it didn't necessarily show that we're going to massively fall off.

The scorelines were crap though and we conceded too many goals

Basically it felt like that run of games was our usual draws and losses all happening consecutively rather than being spread out across the season

Fair few opposition fans who I speak to have said the fixtures in our tough run were really unkind to us.

A neutral who went to Hull as well said we looked the better team with better chances created.

I totally agree with the gist of what you are saying but I can’t agree with “remarkable achievement “. We are doing well that much is fair and true but we are 6th at the moment that’s a decent place to be but it’s hardly remarkable or even an achievement because it only means something at the end of 46 games. I don’t believe we are over achieving at all, we are doing well but over achieving? Not in my view at this moment in time. To me, claiming “remarkable “ and “over achievement“ is just acceptance of mediocre with no ambition.

Lets hope we continue doing well or even making a remarkable achievement at the end of this season.

I agree with you that it’s great to be in 6th place with so many points.

For me the big pluses at PNE at the moment are :

The Board have made a substantial investment in the squad this summer (showing massive commitment);
We’ve signed some really exciting talented attacking players;
This seems to have increased fans’ optimism with impressive +16k average home attendances and 1,600 average away support;
We’ve seen some exciting attacking football (but only very, very occasionally);
Despite Lowe’s limitations we’ve still managed to remain in a good League position.
With good coaching and management we have the players capable of securing a Play Off place.

My concerns:

RL has clear and major flaws -
He seems to lack the ability to utilise the undoubted talent at his disposal;
He seems to know only one method which is to overload the team with defensive players and play on the back foot;
He seems to be a very poor motivator eg blaming his players for his own mistakes;
He doesn’t seem to learn from his mistakes;
He constantly spouts utter bullshit;
He seems settled to aim for a mid-table finish.

Our great start was despite some quite poor performances and was down to a lot of luck;
We’re 19th in the current form table with just 1 win in 8 (6 points from 24).

Let’s all hope that the investment made in the squad this summer isn’t wasted, that we get the very best out of players like Millar, Osmajic, Mads, Keane, Holmes and all of our other talent, and have a real go at making the Play Offs.
We still haven’t seen Ramsay or Stewart yet as well…..

I think we need to accept that Bauer and Cunningham are finished at this level , so we need to bring two new defenders into the squad in January..

So you think with our squad we should be higher than sixth?

You think our squad is better than southamptons, Leeds, West Brom’s? The thing is fans get deluded with their expectations. Have high expectations absolutely but let’s not get carried away.

We can challenge for a play off place but let’s be honest we need a bit of luck along the way. We have some good players but we also have some bang average ones. Our two left centre backs are injured yet again, we have no right back/right wing back tk challenge potts and our defence is average.

The positives are though we have some good attacking players. Mads/holmes/Millar/osmajic have been excellent signings. Our home form is pretty decent. One loss in seven. Our away form is a concern. If we start picking up away from home then we should finish in a play off place.
My own yardstick of achievement is less to do with other clubs, and their squads, it’s just should we have got more points with our squad. Yes we should!

Onwards and upwards however. Let’s hope we go on another run now.

I personally can't see us staying in the top 6 till January, but if we do, it would be a big statement of intent to bring in this guy from Sweden and Ben Davies on loan (or someone of his ilk).

I think Sedge Fan said Bauer was lined up to join Charlton on loan but there was a dispute over a loyalty payment, and you would think Stewart and Woodburn may also go out on loan to get more minutes, freeing up some space.

These next 6 games will really show where we are at in terms of us progressing under Ryan Lowe.

Boro away is probably a banker defeat, but Blackburn (a), Cardiff (h), QPR (h), Norwich (a), and Huddersfield (a) is as kind as it gets.

I'd certainly be disappointed with less than 9ts.

An opportunity to watch Cray Valley Paper Mills in the FA Cup on TV shortly. You never know it might prove a bit of advance scouting for the 3rd Round. Oh and Josh Earl has helped ensure that Kidderminster are already out. Good lad Josh - if he had been played consistently in his proper position as a left-sided defender he might well still be one of our players.

We have Greg till the end of this season. I don't see him here for '24-25.
Bauer's a bit younger and I don't know the contract details. If Lindsey gets crocked, he's stepping-in.
Agreed, now's the time to get the wish-list together for Father Christmas.

I think he’s playing left back for Fleetwood.

It would be quite interesting to re-read the Season Prediction Thread.

I was one of the more optimistic ones suggesting that we'd finish 10th.

The majority predicted lower placings.

Based upon this, commonsense suggests that 6th actually isn't all that bad and I'll happily take 6th at the seasons end now.

Well Done to Ryan, his staff and the players.

Obviously we'd all take 6th place at the end of the season. We haven't played everyone yet and there's a long way to go.
I still think our league position is falsely high due to that great run we had. The question is, can we do it again to maintain that position?

With respect, your post is absolute nonsense.

You have an interesting but unsurprising view on things and an unusual interpretation of mediocre/unambitious.

Of course it's an achievement to be where we are in the league right now, both points and positions wise (6th and just 3pts off 3rd). And it's an improvement of 6pts on last seasons position after the same number of games.

That's something we have achieved, or is it in my imagination?

This season so far has been anything but mediocre, whichever way you look at it. Up to now it has been remarkable.

This is something to be proud of and happy about. Credit goes to the club & manager for over achieving (currently), especially in the context of other clubs with much bigger budgets and larger fan bases.

To describe this as accepting mediocrity and being unambitious is...well...really odd frankly.

Also interesting how you claim our league position only matters at the end of the season. Fans look at the league table all the time - it's a barometer of success that indicates how well a team and manager are doing.

If it only matters at the end of the season, then we should all ignore our league position until then.

Let's not get excited after a win, or excited at how close we are to promotion. Don't get upset after a defeat, or depressed if we're close to relegation. Let's all keep quiet until the end of the season.
