I can’t even be bothered to read your post I just read the first couple of sentences. For clarity though I never said the season was mediocre I said if you see remarkable achievements at this stage then it shows how willing YOU are to take mediocre. I said more than once we are doing well but don’t let facts get in the way of your waffle and drivel.Joan you're hilarious. 🤣 I would suggest, politely, that it's you who needs to 'get a grip' if you think this season has so far been mediocre and unambitious. I can only assume you were one of those who wouldn't allow themselves to enjoy it when we were top of the league.
I'm talking about PNE and THIS season, not Luton last season. But since you mention Luton, yes what Luton achieved was absolutely remarkable, and an anomaly in modern day football.
What PNE have achieved so far this season is remarkable, a description that seems to upset you. If you believe that enjoying our start to this season and being delighted with our current league position is accepting mediocrity, or being unambitious, then you're utterly clueless. Or you're on a wind-up.
Regarding the last paragraph of my previous post, you said our league position "only means something at the end of 46 games", thereby inferring that current league position doesn't matter.
So why do you appear to be upset that mediocre and unambitious Preston are 'only' 6th in the league, if our current league position is meaningless? And why are some folk calling for the manager to be sacked?
Have to congratulate you though on your sense of fairness, by giving the club and Ryan Lowe the full season before you judge whether we've been successful, fulfilled any ambitions, or achieved anything remarkable.
You won't be looking at the league table until May, when you can see our final league position, so I won't expect to see any comment from you until then, good or bad.
Perspective
We’ve always laughed at the Plastics for being promoted by November.
What we have done this season is made a decent start, nothing more, nothing less.

Fully agree.
First 7 matches - top of the form table. “Brilliant!”
Next 7 matches - virtually bottom of the form table. “Shite!”
Great to have won so many points so soon but what matters is the remaining 31 matches and whether our manager can find a winning formula with the undoubted talent at his disposal. The next few matches will give us a bit more idea where things are heading. RL needs to halt this current poor run of 6 points from 24 with some more wins starting on Friday if possible. He should at least be going into every game trying to win and playing our best players.
My feeling is that we now have some top Championship level attacking players eg Millar, Mads, Osmajic, Holmes but our defence needs to be strengthened. And it seems to make the best sense to me to exploit these strengths by playing on the front foot rather than subjecting our defence to so much pressure every match. The more we play the game in the opposition half the less chance of conceding whether through opponent skill or defensive mistake.

We need defenders with pace in the next window if we are to improve. As simple as that in my opinion. We cannot press if we are scared of getting caught too far up the pitch and we have tried defending deep which is like watching paint dry on a cold, damp day.

PNE will not finish in the top 6 this season. It would be quite interesting to re-read the Season Prediction Thread.
I was one of the more optimistic ones suggesting that we'd finish 10th.
The majority predicted lower placings.
Based upon this, commonsense suggests that 6th actually isn't all that bad and I'll happily take 6th at the seasons end now.
Well Done to Ryan, his staff and the players.

Agreed but ones that can play football too would help.

Some ball playing defenders that can drive forward and we might have a chance. If we had those then Lowe might have an epiphany and grow a pair of bollocks by pressing...... Who knows in the next window because lets be clear and fair..The last one was quite impressive.
As things stand you are correct imho.
We have the third best home record in the league and the third most points at home in 2023 in the league and imagine if we'd held on against Southampton and got the penalty vs Millwall.
We've massively improved the home form since last season.
Some aspects still need to improve, namely the back line but Lowe needs to get some results over the next few games.
Result against Blackburn and we're looking a good outfit again.

And he will if he doesn't revert to 7 at the back and wobbling over the opposition lineup.

To be honest I think people get too caught up on this ‘bad run.’ Could we have done better. Of course! But they have also coincided with playing the top two away as well.
We’ve stopped the rot and hopefully this means we can now kick on. It’s a tough league this. No we haven’t achieved anything yet but us being sixth should be praised.
I’ve read deluded comments on here saying we should be doing better or we are underachieving. Really? For this stage of the season six is a great position to be in. As people have said the league table starts to take shape now. Hopefully we can kick on and put another run together like we did earlier in the season.

Not convinced then? 🙂
To be fair it’s PNE we’re talking about and experience shows that absolutely nothing is certain. Same for vast majority of clubs I suppose. Not convinced then? 🙂
That's good considering you're about 200 years oldI was walking like a 90 year man….

I’m not going to come out and say ‘we will do this’ or ‘we will do that’ as this is PNE we are talking about. However we have put ourselves in a great position.
Last season people talking about how shit the league was. So to be sixth in a much tougher league is a great position to be in.

Hopefully we’ve had our toughest run of fixtures early and got them out of the way.
We’re very good at home, 3rd best in the league this year and in 2023, the big boys still have to come to our backyard.
That's the spirit.PNE will not finish in the top 6 this season.
