I noticed yesterday that the pitch is starting to thin out. Until the club chooses to invest properly in installing a modern surface, I expect any good home form to fade as we move into winter. People will say it’s the same for both teams — and it is — but as the home side you’re usually expected to play the better football and a poorer pitch makes it easier for away teams to come, knock the ball long, and settle for a point, rather than being out footballed.

Most Championship pitches now use hybrid systems with synthetic fibres, which makes them thicker and far more resilient.

I genuinely believe the pitch has been a factor in our poor home form in recent winters. It’s a shame.

Credit to the grounds team who I think do an excellent job considering the circumstances.

Keep an eye on away team pitches over the next couple of months. You’ll notice big differences.

The investment I’d like to see over the coming years is a new hybrid pitch and safe standing added to Town End.

Probably fair. But a desso pitch is between £1m - £1.5m, and like you say, that comes straight out of the budget for playing staff.

Agree with the principle but I can see why it’s a tough decision for the club. You can already see the future NPC comments trying to ironically take the piss out of the club with comments like “but but at least we have a new pitch…!” 😴

"Can be play up front?"

The pitch generally cuts up slightly during every warm up when the subs are in there square passing it around. As soon as we get any bad weather like yesterday and play on it that just ruins the pitch for the rest of season more then not as the ground staff are just then putting there efforts in to repairing it

I went onto the pitch yesterday (long story) and thought it was quite patchy. Similar to previous seasons and can see it’s going to go quickly downhill from here. I also asked about the ‘tent’ but no sign of that it would seem !

I'd rather we spent £1.5m on a proper modern pitch than on another squad player.

Truth though is is that it really really shouldn't, at this level with Billionaire Owners, be a case of one or the other.

This is one prime reason why the club HAS to be sold to someone / some people with the ability and want to do both.
