Pitch

Pitch

Another awful Wembley Cup Final pitch was the League Cup one between Arsenal & the mighty Swindon Town , who won with a Don Rogers goal 1-0. They played it in either February or March ...the day or so, straight after the "Horse of the Year Show".
If any could find pictures of that pitch & post them up here , that would be fun.
The Good Old F.A. again...

Paul Reaney nearest, with Billy Bremner on the ball again....
The best picture featuring him is that one getting up close and personal with Derby County's Dave Mackay. 😯
---oOo---
That Arse/Swindon League Cup Final pitch was described as a 'Potato Field' or similar in some newspapers. 🤔 😆

That was my first trip to Wembley as a 6 year old. Swindon won 3-1, Don Roger’s got 2 in extra time

I think I must have mistakenly remembered it as 1-0 because I think one of Rogers goals was a very good 'breakaway' effort (?)
I also think it was 1969 (?)

Yes it was 1969. One of his goals he ran from his own half, not easy on that pitch

You can say what you like about the quality of some of the players and how prepared they were for the conditions but the fact is that two of our players slipped and fell over in the same area of the pitch on Saturday. I don't see us having abandonments like Blackburn but something does need to be done if nothing else because it's an embarrassment that a Championship club can't have an appropriate pitch.

Why not look at bringing in a pitch sponsor instead.
Someone gets naming rights for the playing surface (not ground) plus some branding behind the goal line. It'd brings in fresh money without touching the transfer pot and it turns the pitch upgrade into an asset rather than a cost. Also improve FFP limit.

The club gets a better playing surface.
The manager keeps the 1.5 million for the squad.
A business gets decent visibility and a clean association with something positive.
