Players we should have signed!

Players we should have signed!

WTF? Priskin was a good loan signing. Settled in in no time and scored us some vital goals.

I really don't know what people expect from loan players sometimes. Ross Wallace looked pretty average in his first few games, once settled he is one of the best wingers in this league.

its becasue he had that bad game at blackpool, and missed a couple of good chances against Burnley.

I was quite impressed with him in that Burnley game, for him to miss those chances but still be getting in the right positions to get more chances and still score showed a bit of charachter and a bit of quality if you ask me.

probably add

Gary Mcsheffrey - on loan
Claude Davis - on loan
Carl Fletcher - on loan
Glen Little on loan

Jack lester - might have been a good stop gap signing
Gillespie - right wing available still for nowt

Decisions to release or sell Hill and ormerod now looking a bit daft as well

Should have signed Alex Mathie, Ainsworth when his loan finished, Twellman lol, loads of others. Should have given Allardyce the job full time and we would have kept Ellis too...

Didn't Fergie say we could have Beckham for 3M?

Carl Fletcher would have been a good signing I reckon.

Gallagher is a clever player who knows were te net is, hes scored 12 goals this year, how many goals has Prestons top scorer got? Gally played for us at the wrong time under a poor manager.

Priskin missed a few chances v burnley yes, but he got his rewards for not giving up or hiding by putting the ball in the back of the net. Hes scored quite a few goals this season and shows class in front of goal.

My point is we dont have a quality forward and thats whats going to cost us.

Neither of which these are or they would be doing the stuff for their original clubs. Ask yourself, why has Gallagher never made it at rovers in all the years he has been there when players like Darbyshire (formerly playing with Darwen) and Roberts have played? Why did Stoke not take up the option to sign him if he was so good? Quality strikers would have shone through any manager/situation. Sure he is getting some goals now but there are many players that have purple patches. It doesn't make them 'quality'.

Priskin's performance against Burnley could have cost us, again, 'quality' would have seen a first half hat-trick. He was often anonymous in other games (B'pool, QPR). Again, not the sign of a quality player. Just because he is scoring a few now doesn't either. You would sign everyone on the basis they may come good at some time.

Keeping to the original post....

Should we have signed him? No, because his performances in his loan spell (which by the way are the only ones we CAN judge him on) were not great. He didn't have a bad game against Blackpool, he was shit and non existent. He was at fault (by not doing his job) away at QPR, he missed some sitters against Burnley. An early sitter or two missed away at Charlton spring to mind too. Rescued by Chris Brown.

Should he be signed on that basis then? Glad you guys are not in charge. Bloody hell you'd have given Andy Smith a 10 year contract.

pneHoops Voldemort says we should have signed Priskin. He actually scored a superb goal v Burnley and put one in against QPR so what the hell are you talking about ? He is light years ahead of the truly awful Elliott. Also Brown was vastly overated and has now reverted to type. That being the type who was laughed out of Norwich.

As for Devine ? Would have been a supreb signing at the itme you numpty but that was now almost 12 years ago ! And Nick Ward I would have tomorrow. He would have cost just £50K and been a much bettr bet than the £1 million we've trhown away on Carter>

you have the wrong player and the wrong match - he is talking about Priskin last season at Blackpool and Burnley at home last season.

its your opinion he was shit while on loan, dont present it as fact. I said I thought he was decent especially given the circumstances, i.e. no time to settle, unfit, we were shit etc. What do you expect from a short term loan player? to be banging them in left, right and centre despite the fact they are new, unsettled and generally unfit. Thats living in a dream world. Lets not forget his presence last season coincided with us getting the points we needed for survival.

No one would deny he missed a couple of sitters, but at least he was in positions to score, more then any of our strikers seem to be able to do at the minute. He also bagged a couple as well.

Hes a striker whos rated quite highly by boothroyd, seemingly by their new manager as well, and a player who Irvine thought (rightly) could do a job for us in a bad position.

Priskin was only ever a loan so it's a bit irrelevant really. He was always going to be their first choice this year which is why they were so happy to sell almost every other forward on their books over the summer.

Gallagher seemed to have natural talent but no workrate. I don't think anybody was disappointed to see him go elsewhere - seemed a waste of space to me.
