That’s a nice touch. I would love to go but unfortunately I’m working that day.
Working is overrated , I stopped doing it 2.5 years ago 🤣That’s a nice touch. I would love to go but unfortunately I’m working that day.

I thought I remembered there previously being a loco named after the club and from what I can find, this was it:
- Locomotive Name: Preston North End
- Class: LNER B17/1
- Locomotive Number: 2855 (later 61655)
- Class Nickname: "Footballer" class or "Sandringham" class
- Period: 1928–1960 (all withdrawn by 1960)

Presumably that means exactly 2 years and 182.5 days ago… otherwise you’d have stated that figure to 3 decimal places!

Sadly, I never saw it, as it seems it was withdrawn before my trainspotting days began.

Seems AI is giving duff information yet again. 61655 was actually Middlesbrough. Appears there was never previously a loco called Preston North End...my memory must have been playing tricks, or maybe it was just wishful thinking.I thought I remembered there previously being a loco named after the club and from what I can find, this was it:

As the class mainly operated on the Eastern Region, most of the engines were named after clubs in that region, with one or two predictable exceptions like Liverpool and Everton.
Didn't Virgin name a train with something PNE or at least Preston related when they ran the west coast mainline?
I think it there was a Preston guild one

All the Traction Inverters for the initial fleet of 53 trains were built on Strand rd.
Also the tractìon motors were serviced / overhauled twice on Strand rd.

Traction Inverter should replace midfield general for the name of player who gets to ball in midfield and starts an attack.

You might be right, it seems to ring a bell.

That's the one I remember, wasn't it to commemorate one of the Guild celebrations or am I completely losing it? 🤔
They did which was when it was a 9 car. When increased to 11 cars was redesignated 390 128.They named one of their Pendolino's 390028 'City of Preston' Not sure of the date mind!
When Alstom repainted/Wrapped the fleet for Avanti the Cast name plates were Auctioned off for Charity and replaced with a Vinyl.
There is a good article on blog Preston dated 2021.
