Matchday Thread PNE v Huddersfield Town - 9/4/24 - KO:7.45pm - Championship

First half PNE looked too lethargic not urgent enough with their passing/play.Second half much better Brady and McCann were v good and great hat trick from Millie -as someone said playing to his strengths. Frøkjær provides creativity (which PNE need) although defensively not so good.I think it was his pass for the hat trick goal so let’s keep him in side and generally be proactive against Norwich and Southampton-if we can win those 2 I think we will make playoffs-momentum is everything!😎

Some Norwich fans on their forum are clearly concerned about us now - very worried about their away form. I had a look at their results and their away form is pretty poor, although they did win at Hull. I genuinely thought we'd blown it at Watford but we have been given one last chance!

A lot of the time, I think it's because other players aren't sufficiently switched on and don't anticipate what he's going to do (much the same was often said about the brilliant Alan Spavin).

Of course, by nature, Frøkjær is unpredictable but the understanding will only improve by sticking with him, while accepting that not everything he does will come off.

Despite being on the bench for a fair bit of the season, he still has the most assists with 8 (Holmes, who was excellent last night, especially, 2nd half, is 2nd on 6).
If everything he did came off he would be playing for a top club in the premiership.Lets not forget its only his 1st season in the championship.

I went on with about 7 or 8 other lads and we always stood in the same place, just to the left of the exit tunnel…..
We were right at the back but gravitated to virtually the same place as you a year or two later. My favourite ever season.

!st half we were so poor, playing lke a team of strangers. Second half really wasn't much better till gone 65 mins when we had the subs and they decided they really needed to up their game. The big difference for me ( apart from thr subs) was that they finally played with more pace and put the ball on the floor and played it through and round Huddersfields defence for our forwards to run onto, rather than the high ball that has our forwards with back to goal and dominated by their center halves.
Fantastic last 15-20 mins but we need to play to our forwards strengths much more then we often do.

I noticed two occasions against Huddersfield where Mads received the ball and he then played the ball to the player who was not there because they had passed the ball to Mads and then stopped, thinking their involvement was over and were having a day dream, but if in fact had they had continued their run would have received a fantastic pass in a very dangerous position. As a result Mads was left looking like he had made an awful pass and our badges manager is standing waving his hands in frustration when, in fact Mads was brilliant but let down by inferior team mates.

I was stood on the Kop .. directly behind the goal at the back . When we scored we rolled down the wooden steps til those bull bats stopped us .. when the fifth went in my then mate Paul Skiba thumped me ! It was mad … by the time I left England in early seventy for a two year holiday in Oz curtesy of being a ten pound Pom . ( the holiday that never ended I’m still here) I’d graduated to the west stand corner underneath the broadcast box . Where the atmosphere was more muted but exquisitely targeted. As was ‘snooksies ‘ barrack of hughie mcilmoyles efforts to chase back and tackle in what would be called a lull in play ..unimpressed with a half hearted effort Snooksie let him have it … WELL DONE MACILMOYLE .. pause YOU SHITHEAD !!!

Correct. 71st, 73rd and 76th minute!

So even quicker than Osmajic - so maybe what we saw last night was only the second fastest hat-trick ever by a PNE player. Brian Godfrey was a superb player - really tough but also creative when required. He cost us I think about £5,000 from Scunthorpe and was a mainstay of the team throughout the mid-60s.

Yes I agree, my best season as a North End fan…..

I went all over watching us.

That last game at home to Tranmere was brilliant..

I may be wrong on naming where I was .. was it the west paddock ? Or something .. I’d love to know lol

We've been given one last chance to play for another last chance to play for another last chance to play for another last chance to play for another last chance.

Once thats all ticked off (its a doddle really) then its playoffs time.

Kop End.

Change Kop End to Town End and you have a description of the Ernie Hannigan hat-trick in the first half of the 9-0 demolition of Cardiff in which Brian Godfrey got the rapid fire second half hat-trick mentioned elsewhere.

Anybody see the complete bellsniff kicking off in the town end every time pne scored?
I couldn't work out why he was kicking off, but it was after every goal.
Somebody said he's a prick and does it every game.
