Matchday Thread PNE v Leeds Utd -26/12/23 - KO 12:30PM - Championship

For me, it goes almost without saying that Millar was the difference yesterday. He's frustrating at times, defensively weak, but one of those rare players who can come up with that bit of magic to change a game, in the way the likes of Nugent, Beckford, McGeady and Archer did in the past.

Farke clearly hadn't done his homework on Millar and unlike Ismael of Watford, he didn't learn from the first half. As we saw against Plymouth early in the season, if you give him space, Millar will cause havoc. Against teams that come and park the bus, as Sheffield Wednesday probably will, you'd expect him to be much more closely marked, given less space and time on the ball. It's against teams like that where we usually struggle at Deepdale and revert to the passing sideways and backwards followed by the aimless hoof.

Like the majority on here, I still think we need a change but credit where it's due, by and large, Lowe got things right yesterday - we just need to maintain the momentum on Friday.

People have been comparing Lowe with Frankie recently, these people can't understand football. Our style of play is miles better than Frankies, we've had a few tough results but we have to stick with him, the signs are there that we can play very well we just need to be more consistent
Our football has been awful very often and it’s very often because the manager has set the team up completely wrong.
Surely Jack you could see the difference yesterday?

Probably the best game I've seen for a season or so for North End. All the team played as a team and worked hard, Whatmough was particularly good in defence. Whiteman always wanted to win the ball and as for Millar his enthusiasm and direct play always looking for an opening was as they commented on sky "top class" although I wish i could say the same about sky, very biased always giving the Leeds viewpoint first. Shame about the haircut of Farke he looked more like a Bulgarian tight rope walker, perhaps his days are numbered, they have spent a lot of dosh and returned nothing yet. Still not convinced about Lowe, he'll be juggling the team from week to week, it's how he sees his role. My only concern when Ridsdale was shown sat behind some priests was that a crucifix in his seating area would have made my day. Well done PNE, I'm sure you can keep in the higher half but maybe only just.

So his eyes said it in the interview? 😂 Players don't want to come off so I can well see him not being happy with being subbed, but how you can then claim a larger 'friction' from that I don't know.

If he said what Preston Lad has written, then to me that sounds like he's on the manager's side more than anything else.
Watch this space 🤫🤔🤔

Being a sad individual, I watched the match at Deepdale and then watched it again last night having recorded it. I don’t know why Browne wasn’t given a second yellow for his desperate lunge in the dying moments and he can have no complaints about being subbed. It also gave him the chance of deserved applause. Osmajic had also been booked and caused the sending off kerfufile and could also have been sent off so RL had the choice of Keane or Evans to replace him. Either for me as long as not the ineffective Woodburn.

Some posters claim that Evans makes an impression as an impact sub but I think those days have gone.
In my opinion Keane is a much better option and he is being under- utilised

I could - Woodburn didn't feature. Usually, at 1-1, he'd be on to slow things down, play in our own half, and hang on to the point 🙄.
PNE are about to make a sub with minutes to go, said to my lad 'eh up, Woodburns' coming on to get his appearance money'
Couldn't believe it when it was Ledson, had to do a double and triple take. Where's Woody i exclaimed' summat like that, anyway.
In fact, Where's Woody should have his own special red and black hooped kit.

I did the same 🙄

Didn’t hear anything about this on the day. Good to see he’s stabilised and great to see Ridsdale phoning the family, but what a horrible experience

I'm glad the lad is improving - hopefully no life changing injuries. It sounds like everyone did everything they could. It brings the game itself into perspective. All the best to the lad and his family.

How much related to the sad tale above is open to one's individual attention, but it is a trend with some of the PNE fans attending away games to do the Seat Diving thing. That's great - if
(1) They don't hurt themselves &
(2) don't unintentionally hurt others - especially small children & the elderly who are nearby but don't/shouldn't or want to feel obliged to join in. It can injure them.

I worry about this for the Chelsea game, especially being on crutches due to a knee injury. I’m on the front row so at 55 years old with a heart condition as well I shouldn't be worrying about getting dived on if we score.

I do wish they were grown-up. They may have big bodies but they act like they are in an adventure playground as a bunch of 8 year-olds. I don't care if their 'youthful exuberance' doesn't extend to others.
But it does😐

Watched the North End access all areas youtube. Had no idea the darts world champion, Michael Smith, was a nobber. A St Helens boy by birth, an unusual combo.
