I'm guessing if you were gift upgraded by another member then you won't have to do anything, your account will probably revert back to minge mode.
I think you can also pay for the upgrade via paypal using a debit/credit card without making an account. If that was how it upgraded 12 months ago then it will probably just lapse as your payment details won't have been saved and it's just sent you a reminder email. Think it's just a bit clunky by the way it integrates into the forum. If it's causing issues post more details and we can flag to JK so that he can check on any previous upgrades possibly

When people select to upgrade via PayPal they ask if you would like to make this a reoccurring payment.
If you have selected yes but decide against auto renewing then you would indeed need to cancel that reoccurring payment with PayPal.
If you do not select this option then then payment wouldn't be taken on auto renew.
If it was gifted then that will depend if the user who gifted the upgrade selected reoccurring as to if they are willing to continue paying your patronship.

If you don't have PayPal and didn't sign up as a patron yourself then no one will be taking and funds from you.
As explained if someone else has gifted you the partonship then they will have had the option.
You will have been sent a message about it as a default for expiring patronships.

JK just sorted my account for me. I knew I hadn’t paid anything for a considerable amount of time but it was showing me as a patron. It turns out during the upgrade it just left me (and I presume others) as permanent patrons, which isn’t very fair on anyone. Anyway, sorted it now, perhaps everyone should check their contribution times if it’s more than a year.
JK please correct me if I’ve misunderstood the situation.

I get what you are saying, it’s honestly not what I meant. I was just trying to say it would be unfair on those posters that couldn’t or didn’t want to contribute that I was getting advantages they were not when I wasn’t contributing either. I didn't mean to aim my post at anyone in particular just generally if it happened on my account it may be the same for them.Ive a while to go yet Joan, and i will gladly pay the £5-50 no problem i just want this to be my decision and not automatically took out of my account, i still cant understand how this has come about it shouldn't be allowed, well?? thats my opinion anyway😕
Incidentally, I think it asks if you want recurring payments but even if takes it automatically you can cancel it, I did a few years ago.

I remember my 2nd year of car insurance. Had no idea about auto renewal. Nearly lost my shit when they took £1400 out my account.
