Preston North End - Iconic images.

1974-1975. We had the tallest defence in Division 3. Gary Williams 9'7", Nobby Stiles 7'6", John Brown 8'10", Ray Tracey 8'9", Stuart Baxter 10'1".

This brings back memories. My first season going to Deepdale. Must have been 2 months after this was taken. 0-0 draw against Rovers.
Wow where has time gone.....?

Elwiss, Morley, Holden, Bird, Williams, plus 3 (albeit ageing) European Cup winners. That team should have done better than it did.

As for Treacy, wasn't he a striker?

Yes he was. Imho Bobby Charlton resigning over the John Bird debacle contributed to our disappointing season (we finished 8th I believe).

There is another 'version' of this picture...

Mick Baxter (Honourable Member of the Gentry) is back row far left. I don't know who the guy is back row far right. Michael Robinson is middle row second left standing to the right of Mel Holden (Honourable Member of the Gentry). On Mel's left is Alex Spark (Honourable Member of the Gentry). I don't know the guy middle row third from right standing next to The Right Honourable Michael W. Elwiss. Front Row - Roy Taylor (?), Stephen Doyle, Gordon Dick (?), John Smith, Ricky Thompson.

The wall collpase was 66. I don't think there was anything similar in 72.
I was on the 1972 game ( Charlton, Best, Law etc ) and there was no incident involving the wall on that day.....

Just two bloody goals in the last 6 minutes by Man U to win the game 0-2

I rather think it's Nat Lighthouse.
It is to be hoped you feel as stupid as you now look.
Personally I don’t understand why Nat Lofthouse, ‘The Lion of Vienna’ was never honoured in the same way as Sir Tom and Sir Stanley. He was as fine a man as he was a player. 285 goals for his one club and an astonishing 30 in 33 for England.
Perhaps a little respect? RIP ‘Sir’ Nat

Just a minute: you're picking somebody up on a post they made 2 years and 5 months ago?!!!...... regarding a reply they wrote to a request for info on a photo? They obviously recognised Lofthouse, and it was plainly some kind of spelling auto-correct at work..... I rather think your first line is more apt for you.

Not a PNE icon but one who will be fondly remembered.
Dai Davies passed away today age 72, what a performance he gave in the draw with Peterboro’ when North End gained promotion in 78!
He was an absolute star in North End fans’eyes, he performed brilliantly when we needed Wrexham to draw.
RIP Dai, you will always be remembered for what you did that day!

As one of the 400 or so Nobbers who made the trip to support Wrexham in their draw with Peterboro', I wholeheartedly agree with this sentiment. That double save he made in the dying minutes of that game was brilliant - and it got us promoted.

RIP Dai Davies.

I was at that game. Amongst if not the best goalkeeping performance I have ever seen. It was us not Wrexham, who had already been promoted, who reaped the benefit of his top drawer keeping.
Sorry to hear of his passing. RIP.
