Preston North End - Iconic images.
I am pretty sure it was Nat when asked who was the better player Sir Tom or Sir Stan, he said its a close call, but when Tom crosses for me to head in, he ensures I don't head the laces on the ball he's that good. 😀👍It is to be hoped you feel as stupid as you now look.
Personally I don’t understand why Nat Lofthouse, ‘The Lion of Vienna’ was never honoured in the same way as Sir Tom and Sir Stanley. He was as fine a man as he was a player. 285 goals for his one club and an astonishing 30 in 33 for England.
Perhaps a little respect? RIP ‘Sir’ Nat
I was on that game too - a few more than 400 tho'As one of the 400 or so Nobbers who made the trip to support Wrexham in their draw with Peterboro', I wholeheartedly agree with this sentiment. That double save he made in the dying minutes of that game was brilliant - and it got us promoted.
RIP Dai Davies.
Very sad about Dai Davies - he had a blinder when he didn't have to
Took stick off North End fans the two times we met in the league that season, they'd won the league already and would have been quit justified in taking the foot off the pedal to concentrate on upcoming Welsh Cup Final, which if they won would get then into the following seasons Cup Winners Cup.
Integrity I think is the word
ps he was a bloody good goalie as well
Squires or Top Rank?True - I ve just no recollection of a Saturday night game .
I mean , I had things to do on Saturday nights in 1977 🙂 - would have been dressed ready for the disco.

A great quote!! 😀I am pretty sure it was Nat when asked who was the better player Sir Tom or Sir Stan, he said its a close call, but when Tom crosses for me to head in, he ensures I don't head the laces on the ball he's that good. 😀👍
I met him several times in the 70s and 80s and for one of such sporting greatness, in common with Sir Tom and many other major players of their time, he had no hint of celebrity about him. Just courage and honour.
Now that was one wild crazy day...... The total crowd was about 7,000 of which about 4,000 were Nobbers !!He ended up at PNE, scored in his last professional game at Springfield Park, May 1983.
Police horses were on the terracing trying to keep the Preston fans under control..
It was the same day that Man City got relegated to the second tier......

Similarly you couldn't imagine players from back then arriving at the dressing room with a Louis Vuitton wash bag 😂

No Saturday afternoon, I was clean thru on the keeper then squared it to Eck to score. Keeped talking to Leighton JamesI thought that was a night match. ( And that we led for most of the game via Bruce )
all game to stop trying, all happy with a

My grandfather was very close to where that picture was taken from. He always claimed Mutch was not fully conscious after a recent tackle. Anyways there seemed a clear reluctance from any other player to take the spot kick, and Mutch was almost manhandled (Mutch was quite diminutive?) to the penalty spot and told to get on with the spot kick. Being not fully in control of his faculties he promptly slotted one of the penalties of his career -almost fearlessly given he wasn’t 100% sure if his whereabouts.Huddersfield? correct me if I'm wrong

That’s excellent, first time I’ve seen that clip. Seen the penalty but not the lead up to it, decent quality footage also 👍
Definitely a penalty!
