I am obviously being dumb, but I cannot work out how to quote a post.

Whatever I do, all I get is my text without the post I'm replying to.

Doh!

Click on " reply with quote " write your reply and then click on " post quick reply "....................... If you get this then it works. 🙂
 
When you hit quote or reply with quote the text box you get should show the previous quote with square brackets and quote /quote within the square brackets. If you aren’t seeing that then it’s not going to quote the post when you add your reply

May be worth changing your settings on the account from the WYSIWYG editor and try basic or advanced in case that gives any luck

advanced editor it is!
 
For those having difficulties as been suggested using the advanced option usually doesn’t the trick.

Once the site is upgraded this will no longer be a problem.
